I am thinking about getting pet insurance for Spelda and wanted to know what pet insurance companies everyone uses.

I use VPI, as do many of the other members. I’m not sure what other companies are out there, but I am happy with VPI.

I think VPI is the only one available for rabbits.

I was told it wasn’t worth it to get VPI. They can drop you when ever they want. I want to get an insurance for my bun..soon to be buns but nothing is telling me I should. Every thing I see is negative about VPI.

Maybe some one can change my mind on here?

I had VPI for the late great PepperBunny, and when she turned out to have chronic pasteurella it was a godsend.  There was only one year out of 5 that I didn’t get back more than I spent, and some years my reimbursements were in the thousands.

They don’t cover everything, and the reimbursement schedule has some weird stuff on it, but it was a HUGE relief to be able to take her in and not have to ask about costs when deciding on a test or procedure.  They even paid a death benefit towards cremation costs.

I plan to get it for my current bun as soon as I can afford it – the peace of mind is worth $120 a year for me

I can second that favorable impression. I did have to use it for a small GI incident last year. They accepted the diagnosis and costs, reimbursed me within 30 days as promised, and did not cancel my plan. Were courteous and helpful with my questions. Still recommend them for the $12/month per bunny.

I took both of my rabbits in for their yearly exam. This was the first time I remembered that I had VPI and had the vet hospital submit the claims. I got reimbursed for one but not the other (I think it was due to the fact that one of them had some blood work done but the other didn’t). They paid me back a little over the yearly premium for the rabbit so I see it as a win/wash type of setup.
