This might sound a bit weird…. My two rabbits were spayed about 2 weeks ago and everything seemed fine but i have noticed that one of them has unpicked her stitches! Now there is a hole, about 2cm by 3cm, but it doesn’t seem to be infected. Please help, i’m quite new to this.

To be on the safe side, I would just call the vet’s office and speak with them to get some reassurance or see if they want to see her.

Are you sure that it is a whole and not a scar?

Stitches are usually removed 10-14 days after the surgery, so it should be ready to heal on its own if they had their surgery two weeks ago. You can rinse it out with a Saline Solution twice a day if you are still nervous about it.

I favor calling the vet right away and describing it. My bunny’s stitches were disolving, so they weren’t removed on follow up. It really depends. Check with your dr. to see if this needs to be looked at. If your vet takes email, you could take a pix and email it to her to get a look.

Most vets will do follow ups post-spay/neuter for free, as a drop in appt., if they were the ones who did the surgery. If yours does, you might as well get them to take a look.
