I am going over seas on holiday for a month and have to leave my bunny. I have arranged for him to stay in the pet shop that I bought him from and that way he can have other bunny company but I am really worried, I haven’t even left him for a night! He sleeps on my bed and everything!

If he will be ok is there anything I can do to remind him of me?

I would not take him to the pet shop for a month. Pet shops are dirty places and many of the animals there are sick or have the potential to spread illness. And you don’t know what kind of care he will receive. Have you looked into nearby rescues who may offer pet-sitting, or your vet who may have an area for boarding pets? Even searching for pet-sitters on Craigslist may allow you to find a responsible young person in your area. Another option is a trusted neighbor or family member who lives close by. You can either have the bun taken over the pet-sitters house (probably preferable since it’s for a longer length of time) or they can come by your house daily.

I agree most heartily with Beka. You will need a reliable pet sitter for the next several years, so it’s a good idea to do the leg work to find one now.
A month is a longer time, but I think it’s safest to leave him with a friend or family member you trust. Actually, I like vet boarding best, since it is the easiest way to be sure if he gets sick he will get help asap, and they know how to handle and feed and clean a bunny well.

Pet sitters may be listed with your local rescue, shelter, or even animal control officer for your town. You want someone who is good with bunnies, but you need your home to be safe if unoccupied for a month, so try to take him to them. Pet store – not a good idea.

              P. S. He does not need other bunnies for company. Just human attention and exercise for a period of time each day.

Thanks for the advise, I have arranged for him to stay at a farm (in his cage) with a trusted pet sitter.
Is there anything else I can do for him? What can I leave in the cage to remind him of me? Will he even remember me when I get back?

He should remember you. I have left my buns for nearly a semester at a time (home for breaks) and they remember me.

phew! My first thought when you said pet shop is that he may be accidentily sold! New employee or dumb employee…mistakes happen. Yikes-great you found a pet sitter!!

Use this guide to help you write out instructions https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/tabid/53/CategoryID/24/PID/940/Default.aspx and make sure the sitter can reach you in an emergency. Also make sure you have a vet picked out and notify them that you are authorizing your sitter to get treatment on your behalf if needed.

Have a great trip! He’ll remember you.
