Hunny’s hormones have been a bit outta whack for a couple weeks now… Nothing major some marking & nipping & a lil’ bit what I’ve been referring to as Bunny PMS any way… Since day one I have put her hay in the front half of her litter box (that’s how I had read to litter box train her) and she would do her business in the back half & it worked like a charm… she boxed trained in less then 2 days BUT last weekend I noticed that she had started peeing on the hay then was flipping around & pooping in the back of the box.  Well I started to freak out cause I’ve read about E. Cuniculi & that is shed from the urine & then ingested… So I started to put her hay in the hay rack/feeder that I had and attached it to the side of her pen still in the front half of her box but not in the box so there is no way she can pee on it BUT now she won’t eat the hay… Maybe a couple nibbles here & there but that’s it! Before she’d be constantly munching on it… Now the pellets that I buy her are made with natural ingredients & Timothy Hay is one of the main ones – here’s a copy of the label –  So do you guys think it’s ok that she’s cut back on eating the actual hay?? Do you think that after a while she’ll get use to it not being in the litter box… Her poops haven’t changed any… still big round & plenty. I just know how important hay is to their diet so I wonder –

I don’t think you need to worry about e. cunniculi. Pellets don’t replace hay but as long as she is getting hay she should be fine. You could try altering the hay box to see if that might get her to eat more hay.

i also wouldnt be immediatly concerned about e.cunniculi. My bun is the same and will only eat hay IN his litter box, not in a rack or near it..
i read this article awhile ago and its quite informative, while there is a risk it is quite small and as long as ur bun is healthy the risk is very minimal

Also that would be spread from another rabbit who is infected in their urine, so you don’t need to be concerned in that respect either.
