I’ve had  Hunny since she was 9-10 weeks old (at her 1st vet check she weighed 4.25lbs) & today she’s just over 4 months old & she’s weighing in I’d say at 9-10lbs (give or take a pound), I’ll know her actual weight next week when she goes back to the good ol’ doc to get spay… I feel she is very healthy, she is very solid def not “fat” BUT sometimes I feel she’s getting the right amount of food, sometimes I think “What if I’m feeding her too much” & other times she acts like she’s starving… So I’m here to ask & I’m hoping there’s someone whom is experienced with Flemmies who can give me their 2 cents…  Her normal daily diet is as follows –

Unlimited Hay (Timothy & Oat) & once in a while a sprinkle of alfalfa

Unlimited Pellets (Sherwood Forest All Natural) – “Unlimited” is about 1.5 – 2 cups a day

1.5 – 2 cups Fresh greens (romaine, dandelion greens & parsley mix or a combo of) twice a day

and finally she gets a morning & evening treat (1 slice of either apple, pear OR papaya OR a 1 baby carrot)

In your opinion (as most of you are experienced bunny moms & dads) is this a proper diet??  I mean I got a Flemish Giant because I wanted a big bunny BUT I DO NOT want a fat, unhealthy, OVER weight bunny… I want her to live a long happy, healthy life.

Let me add… We are still “trying” new greens every couple weeks those three are just her favorite… & unlimited fresh, filtered water is a given…

Since she’s only four months old, I’d continue with unlimited pellets. Unlimited hay and about 2 cups of greens are standard parts of any adult rabbit’s diet so I wouldn’t cut those back at all.

She looks pretty normal to me. My girl looks chubby like that when she lays down but the vet always says she’s at a good weight.

Heck, even Monkey looks chubby when flopped, and with only 1.5 lbs of weight, thats an accomplishment

                Diet sounds good to me

Cinnabun always acts like she is starving. When I change out her hay a few hours before bed time, she acts like she hasn’t eaten in months and starts devouring the fresh smelling hay like it’s her full time job. Never mind the fact that 20 mins before I changed out her hay, she was happily noming on her hay from lunch. So I’m sure Hunny is just fine.

Molly does this ALL the time, especially when I give her pellets. It makes me feel like a terrible owner like I’m not feeding her, but I definately am lol Bunnies are little piggies!!

She looks perfect! My bunnies look chubby when they lay down like that too, but when they are sitting or standing they look skinny. My bunnies always act like I starve them. I agree with Rei, bunnies are little piggies (but then again who doesn’t love food?)

                        Good luck with the spay!
