About 2 days ago, I noticed there was a little bit of goo in Wooly’s eye. This isn’t his eye with the torn third eyelid, which permanently protrudes but the vet said it was okay like that. This is his other eye. Yesterday I looked at it and it looked like Leopold had cleaned it. I thought maybe he had just gotten something in there since he likes to stick his head entirely into the pile of hay. This morning I checked again and there was some goo there again. I cleaned it out. He was mad. I couldn’t really see anything though so I’m not sure what’s wrong.

I am worried because I don’t have any money to take him to the vet. As you know, I am having some problems right now. It should be okay to wait a few weeks and just monitor it if it isn’t getting worse, right?

I think so as long as he’s eating. I have to wonder if his skull is just not structured right (I cannot think how to explain this correctly but I hope you understand) and maybe he is going to have some eye issues since you mentioned about his 3rd eyelid protruding.

To clarify, the third eyelid problem is just in one eye. It is the result of an injury. The vet thinks he caught it on something or scratched it somehow. It is torn and the only way to make it not stick out it to surgically cut that part off. The vet said it is fine the way it is as long as it isn’t causing any problems. So far it has been fine. The offending eye at the moment is the other eye. It isn’t oozing very much though. That’s why I was thinking he got something in it or it was irritated by something. I don’t know though, that’s why I thought I should ask. I don’t want anyone to think I’m neglecting him. I really hope it isn’t something more serious.

So he is okay not going to the vet right away? He is eating and pooping just fine. Still runs around like a little maniac. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him really.

Okay, understand. I think it would be fine to wait – I don’t think anyone would think you are neglecting him. I don’t always rush my rabbits off to the vet for every little thing – only if I think it truly warrants it.

I took a little peek this morning. It looks okay. There isn’t anything in the corner of his eye. Maybe he did just have something in there.

Stormy gets gooby eyes from time to time. They can get irritated eyes from hay, fur or whatever.

I am definitely thinking it was just something in his eye. I took a look today and it looks perfectly fine now. Weird.

Zeus gets an occasional watery eye, usually when the windows are open and it’s a breezy day. Have you tried vaccuuming out his living space REALLY well? Move everything, vaccuum under everything, etc. That helps with Zeus. For the eye itself, I wipe it down with a paper towel soaked in warm water. Zeus actually enjoys it, turns into a puddle as I wipe his face.
