I’ve got a bunny that is shedding almost 2 rabbits worth of fur! It’s been going on for a week now. It’s definitely turning into summer outside 90 degrees+. He wants nothing to do with me brushing him. It’s like children at bath time. As soon as its over with, there’s carrots involved and all is well in the world. This is the most I’ve seen him shed. I hate to keep trapping him in order to brush him. Is there an easier way to trick him. I need to get that loose fur off of him. He looks mangy.

Will he let you brush him while he’s eating? One of mine will let me brush him gently while he’s focused on eating breakfast.

You can also wet your hands, or get these gloves that pick up fur to wear. Either way, the fur sticks to your hands so while you’re chasing him and he slips out of your hands you’re actually getting gobs of fur stuck to you so it’s helping to do the job. Not the best solution, but every little bit helps until he’s done.

I tried to brush him while he was eating. He had none of it, he just moved over to the side. The wet hands trick worked to a certain extent. I ended up with a lot of loose fur on my hands. Now he just has loose tufts hanging off his butt! Looks like he is wearing a skirt. Oh well, I’ll just keep after him till he’s done shedding. Thanks for the advice!

Definatly don’t chase him while standing up. You will look like a predator. Get down like a bunny and give him a treat out of your hand.
Maybe try getting him used to the feeling of it. But first lay treats on the brush for him to be around it . Does he like to be pet?

Bindi sheds like that. Its unbelievable the fur that comes off him. I usually just use a slicker brush and wet hands. The best thing to use will depend on what type of fur he has. Bindi has medium to longish and very thick so a slicker works well on him. On my Mini-Rex I use a Furminator.

I don’t chase him around. I herd him back to the bunny room, then get down on the ground and scoop him up real quick, then it’s up on the washing machine where I can completely brush him down. He gets to nibble on a few carrot bits, then I put him down on the floor in the living room (his favorite lounging spot). I then give him a few more little bits of carrot, and he starts grooming himself (because I didn’t do it to his satisfaction), and then flops onto his side. Sometimes he’ll nod off afterwards, so I don’t think he’s upset at all, just with the beginning part. If he knew I was coming to brush him ahead of time, he would make himself scarce.

He has medium length fur that is really thick, especially now that he’s shedding. I’m using a small nylon brush with close bristles. It works well enough, I got it from a friend with a cat. I’ll have to try a slicker though, that sounds like it might work better.

I use a slicker made by Lil Pals. Its for puppies and toy dogs so its small and gentle.
