Oreo is not feeling well tonight.  She refused her dinner salad and doesn’t even want a pellet…  She seems pretty uncomfortable and won’t leave her cottage.  I’m hoping she gets better by tomorrow morning or we’ll be making a trip to the vet..  I gave her some metacam that I had on hand and hope maybe that’ll ease her discomfort enough to get her to eat.

Another side note…this morning we noticed wetness on top of her cottage..we didn’t see her do it, so we weren’t sure if it was just from running through her wet salad plate or something.  But now I’m wondering if she peed up there?  Now that she’s not feeling well I’m thinking it’s probably related?  She never pees outside her litterbox…and this seemed like too much wetness to come just from a salad..

My poor baby  My stomach is in knots and Blu is running circles around my feet …I guess to help me feel better.. funny little guy.

I hope that Oreo feels better soon and starts eating normally. Do you think that baby simethecone or a tummy massage might help her?

Her cottage has probably dried now, but if she did pee on it, it’s possbile that you could still detect that smell. I hope you don’t have to go to the vet, but if you do, and you determine that she did pee on the cottage, that might be something the vet should know.

          Vibes to Miss Oreo.

Vibes to Oreo! I’m sorry she isn’t feeling well. I hope she improves by tomorrow, but if not, I wouldn’t hesitate to take her to the vet like you said. Better safe than sorry! (((Get well soon, Oreo)))

Triple vibes to Oreo!!! It wouldn’t hurt to try baby simethecone as tobyluv suggested just in case she’s dealing with gas (which is serious in bunnies).

              Keep us updated.

Hey guys, sorry I would have checked in sooner but I couldn’t get into the forums this moring/afternoon. Thanks so much for your support, Oreo is 100% better today! I’m hoping she’s through this (for now!).

I tried the meloxicam since I knew that might help with her discomfort. About 1.5hours after the meds she still wasn’t improving at all. In fact I think she was getting worse. She seemed like she was panting a bit and shaking as though she had just run laps around the house. That scared me. Her eyes were half open too and she moved to her litterbox and tried to smoosh herself down to get comfortable. As it was getting close to bedtime I caved and took her to the er vet. I couldn’t go to bed knowing she was in so much pain..I’m a sucker for that. I wish I was stronger to wait it out.

The on call vet wasn’t a bunny specialist but they do treat bunnies so they knew what to do. Based on my comment about her possibly peeing outside her box led the vet to check her underside. She seemed to think it was a bit messy and speculated a uti based on those two things. She couldn’t get a urine sample to check but she prescribed an antibiotic anyhow. So she got the typical cocktail of meds for the stasis..meloxicam I had already given her so they skipped that and gave her metoclopramide for gut motility, subq fluids and the antibiotic. We were lucky enough to do the syringe feeding ourselves…oh joy. I think they should have done that but oh well.

This morning she was like a completely different bunny and all back to normal eager for her food! So we’ll continue with the antibiotic and follow up with our regular vet. Hopefully she’s out of the woods for now and if it was a uti that it doesn’t become a common occurrence…

                      Thanks everyone for your concern.
