So Lady finally started grooming Sam, but now the Hump games have begun They flop next to each other, Sam still grooms Lady, but as soon as Lady falls asleep, Sam goes behind her and humps her  Theres a slight chase, Lady just runs from Sam, doesn’t nip or anything. I finally separated them for a couple hours today so Lady could sleep, poor thing.

I think its making Lady not as trustful of Sam because now she jumps up if Sam gets close to her bum  I’ve been searching and reading, and I tried petting Lady while Sam humped to see if once she did it it was done, but Lady didn’t stay put for more than a few seconds (and I didn’t want to force her ), and Sam still tries to hump her after she does the norm grooming.

        Any ideas/thoughts?

I really wouldn’t worry too much. Leopold was a psycho humper in the beginning. Poor Wooly, he just wouldn’t leave him alone. I think you just have to let them get it out. Once they are satisfied who is top bun, then the humping stops.

Let them hump for a bit, let them run if they want too. It took a.week for Powder to work through it. Take Lady back to her area if she gets too stressed or cant eat etc but for the most part just let them.

Funny, sounds like the little bun wants to dominate the big bun, but luckily Lady is so much larger and she can easily run away. It’s very normal and many times part of the bonding and bonded rabbit process.

I don’t have any brilliant suggestions because mine do this and they’ve been bonded for almost 2 years. I do find that it’s worse in the spring – Hannah just won’t leave Otto alone lately and is always trying to nip him in the bum (she’d hump, but he’s too quick for her). It does strain their relationship and Otto is reluctant to snuggle with her when she’s acting like this, but they get through it eventually. I do yell at Hannah or clap my hands when I catch her chasing and biting – at least it helps her do it less and makes Otto feel less harassed. The last thing I want is for him to get so upset that he turns around and starts a scuffle, so I stop it when I can (a few scuffles did erupt in the early days of their bond, a month after they had moved in together, and it just made things escalate so I try to prevent that situation now)

So no advice really, just commiseration. The longer they are together the better Lady will be able to handle it, and Sam might slow down a bit as the seasons change.

Heehee my female Holland Lop humps my 7 1/2 pound male rabbit. She doesn’t do it anymore really, but she did a lot when they were newly bonded and I mostly just let them work it out except for if she tried to hump his face. I think that they sorted it out themselves.

My buns did not start humping until they were already bonded for months. Now Max humps Meadow occasionally, but she just deals with it for a few seconds and then hops away. As long as they’re not fighting, and Lady can get away, I would not worry about it.

Thanks! She’s not as persistent about it now, which is good.
