I just got my rabbit Riku on Saturday.  Both ears were up until tuesday. On tuesday one dropped and she seems to scratch it ocationally. I looked in it and can’t see anything out of the ordinary. I have her first apointment set up with the vet for next thursday. Should I be concerned? Or should I be fine to wait till thursady?

          First, Welcome!

I think maybe you should wait, if he isn’t scratching constantly or VERY often, It think you should wait.
That’s just my opinion, hopefully someone chimes in

I just realized how long that wait would be. Try to schedule the appt. a little sooner

Can’t get anything sooner. I guess i’ll have to keep an eye on it and hope it doesn’t worsen.

Rabbits are really frequent groomers. Some scratching is definitely normal. I would just watch it until you can get into the vet; however, if your bun starts tilting her head, shaking/itching constantly, you see anything inside or around the outside of the ear (i.e. mites), or you notice that she isn’t eating, pooping, or behaving normally, you need to get into the vet asap.

But I wouldn’t worry; she’s most likely just being her normal bunny self. Congrats on your bun, by the way! You should introduce yourself in the Welcome section, and give us pics. From your avatar, she looks absolutely gorgeous!

I agree that at this time it doesn’t seem like any kind of emergency. I ditto emkvet’s advice and and add that if she’s itching constantly (and injuring or irritating ears due to constant) then obviously that becomes more of an issue.

Just make sure to mention the ear scratching to your vet. Ear mites can be irritating, and yet, unless the infestation is severe, you can’t see anything. As it gets worse you can see some crusties in the ear develop. So it’s just something to talk to your vet about on Thursday.

Congrats your new adorable bunny! Welcome to BinkyBunny.

Thanks everyone. I think I was being a little paranoid lol. I haven’t seen her scratch since. Maybe she will just end up being a lop bunny. Will bring it up with the vet though. Just to be sure.
