That is safe for buns right? (aspen pellets) Anyone have a brand suggestion?  I tried pine pellets but Powder wouldn’t touch his litter box with it (even with just a couple of the pine pellets under his real litter, he could still smell it), want to see if he has the same aversion to aspen.

I sometimes use a bit of aspen to help Mimzy’s Carefresh go farther. It’s only recently and just a few times so I can’t tell if it’s a bother to him yet. I use the Kaytee or Planet Petco chips. I’ve also tried Feline Pine but my bunnies like to eat it.
I’m not sure if it’s something we’ll stick with because I think I may be allergic to it. Usually we just use Yesterday’s News with hay on top to help pad their bottoms.

I am using Yesterdays News at the moment, but boyfriend is complaining about urine smell (even though I clean the box 3x a day!) and when I used WSP with Stickers, there was no smell at all so I know it’s a little bit better at absorbing the smell of fresh urine vs the paper pellets. So curious if Powder will accept it. But also want to make sure it’s safe.

3x a day?! Are you sure there isn’t urine hiding somewhere else, or that the box itself is clean? Sounds to me like your boyfriend is pregnant or something because he has a super-sniffer! lol.

Though aspen is fine. It is pine and cedar that are bad. You could also try having a box of baking soda near the litterbox (but out of his reach) to try to help absorb the smell.

Lol yeah 3x a day… Powder won’t use it if it is at all dirty, so I clean it a lot. And yep none hiding, but Powder pees on the same spot so the paper pellets get wet then wet again so there is a tiny bit of smell but I have to be sitting right beside the box to smell it myself. I clean the box itself weekly. He complains about the tiniest scents though, silly big nose :p

Yup, aspen pellets should be just fine . I agreed with the smell control…WSP absorbs smell better than anything else I’ve used (carefresh, yesterday’s news).

Thanks all, now I just hope he accepts aspen better than he did the feline pine

Let me know if you find any aspen pelleted bedding – I’ve never ever been able to find it where i live.

I’ve used the Aspen Supreme pellets before. They sell it at petco.com and also in some of the Petco stores. I don’t know which other stores sell it. Sometimes, it may be in the bird section because it is also good for birds as well as rabbits.  To me, it has a very similar smell to the pine pellets–a rather strong lumber smell, but my bunnies didn’t seem to mind it. It could be that the aspen pellets wouldn’t smell as pungent to Powder as the pine pellets do. I’m sure that rabbits have a strong sense of smell and a more discerning sense than humans do.

Sarita, I am just going to order it online… they don’t have much in the way of litters here and the ones they do have are all over priced :s But aspen gold might be available if you have a horse supply store around you. I order everything online, I usually go to stores that have free shipping for orders over a certain amount and just stock up.

tobyluv, yeah I am hoping the aspen won’t smell as bad to him as pine. He was so funny when I tried him on pine, he wouldn’t even go in the room with the boxes as long as the litter bag was in that room, even after I removed the litter from the boxes themselves. He was so offended. lol

Thanks, I just looked it up and it doesn’t seem like they sell it down here in Texas :~(

                            Have you found it on-line?

Been looking, it looks like petco has aspen pellets the cheapest… $13.70 for 20lbs and $5.99 shipping. Everywhere else is like $25-30 a bag. o.O
