Do any of your buns HAVE to go to the litter box really bad when you go to clean them? Every time I go to clean the boxes Powder runs over to me like he is in such a huge rush (even if he’s just used the box) , pushes me out of the way and jumps in the box and uses it for like, 3-5 minutes. Every, single, time. So I have to stop what I am doing, wait for him to finish and go back to cleaning (which means reclean since he doesn’t wait for me to put new litter in if I have dumped it). lol I think he just sits in it for most of that time.

      What a little stinker!
None of my buns have done that…but I gotta admit, that is kinda funny. lol

It is, though when I am in a rush it’s kind of annoying lol if I don’t let him though he’ll just use the floor and that is even more time cleaning, so I just have to go with it.

Lola does that every single time! She’s only 4 months old and it really is one of the only time she still has accidents…

This is totally Chester’s favourite game! Sometimes cleaning the litter box can take 20 minutes because we go through this routine two or three times! I’m still at the point where I find it cute, so I indulge him.

LOL. Mine doesn’t do this, he just runs up behind me and nudges my leg and watches to make sure I do it right, then when I leave he has to rearrange his hay. He is soooo picky. I added too much litter once and he threw it all out onto the floor. -.-

Mocha LOVES to do this! He doesn’t do it before I clean but after I have dumped it out he sometimes jumps in the box and pees. Then He steps in it (because there is no litter) and I have to wash his feet off! AHH. Haha! He also gets very excited after I add more litter in them and sits in his new box and pees and munches on hay every time!

This just recently happened to me for the first time. Hopefully it won’t become a re-occurrence even though it’s cute, I know it’ll get old.

Hehe at least it isn’t just my bun it is cute, but it does get old… especially when it’s 2am and you’re trying to get to bed lol

Hahaha sometimes if I don’t get the litter box back to them within 5 minutes Totoro will sometimes pee in the spot where it normally is, even though he has two other litter boxes to chose from.

Sometimes Bud will flip his litter box over and he always has to rearrange it. He never likes where I put it. He likes it in the middle of his cage blocking his front door….and not in the corner thank you very much. Such a handful that one is. lol

sometimes when i forget to change my bunnies litter she tosses the soiled newspaper on to the floor.
back at my old apartment. the storage room was smaller( the storage room is where we keep the bunny) and we had to do some rearranging. so we changed her litter area to another spot. she continued to pee in the area where it used to be

but yea mine usually waits for me to change the litter before immediately using it

King omg yes they are picky aren’t they? I use yesterdays news with a grate on one and there has to be a paper towel directly center of the grate for Powder. The other box is newspaper and it has to be shredded into four pieces not whole or he ignores the box, too small he ignores it too. :s

Mine definitely feel the need to get in the litter boxes while I’m trying to clean them, though usually it’s to eat hay and get in my way, not to pee.

Once or twice somebunny has peed on the bare cage floor while I’m outside for 5min cleaning the boxes. I think it was Otto too, which makes him a brat because he has no problem holding it for 12 hours at a time.

Spockie used to do this, and Samantha only did it once or twice (also like Otto did) but enough that I hold my breath every time I have an empty pan or spot in the habitat.

      I think I hear them laughing, too…..

Nova used to do this sometimes, but now I empty her box inside, so it takes less than a minute and normally she isn’t in her cage because I don’t like to do anything in there when she is in there (apparently she likes help that is not only not heard, but not seen). Plus since I use disposable litterboxes, I never have to scrub them out or spend much time cleaning them.

I keep the boxes in a pet store type cage which is attached to a pen. I usually clean it when they’re sacked out in another part of the pen (like the maze haven) but the second I’m in there messing with the boxes I have two bunnies up in my business, “Whatcha doin’?! Can I help? Oh, I think I need to eat that hay you have there.” lol

My boxes are in the living room, no cage, Powder only goes to that area to use them… but he has to run over at full speed to use them when he hears me take the bag out to clean them. And I have to do it 3x a day so it’s kind of frustrating. lol

My little guy had an issue only once with really really having to go while I cleaned his box and looked embarassed by his accident. I made sure to not have the issue again by having a smaller back-up box (originally purchased to accommodate a more free-range life for him).

Before I move the bigger box for , I put the litter to be put into the bigger box in the slighty smaller box, then swap the two boxes. The bunn is distracted by the curiosity of the smaller box where the bigger box used to be and has a back-up just in case I take too long. Then, whent the big box is clean, I pour the litter from the smaller box (usually dry) into the larger box and put everything back the way the bunn likes it.

I always close the door to Molly’s pen so she can’t get in there while I’m cleaning and therefore can’t get in the litterbox. She has another litterbox outside of the pen so she can use that while I”m cleaning, and likewise, when I’m cleaning the one outside of her pen she has access to the one in her pen. I just cut off her access for 5 minutes. I do this because she doesn’t really like me reaching into her pen and rearranging and moving things while she is in there, so I do it while she is preoccupied
