So, I’m in the kitchen and I hear this appalling noise, sort of like hard wood on a cheeze grater. I raced into the bunny play area and they are all sitting there looking like butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths.

A short while later I hear it again only briefer and I’m sure it came out of Pipi…

As none of my buns have actually grunted in my hearing before I’m not sure if thats what it was.

Currently Baby girls Pipi and Blossom are nearly 11 weeks old and testing their Mummy. So far so good. All still friendly after the exchanges and much snuggling going on.

They have had a round of humping and silly beggars and now are happily sitting together round the big willow basket.

So what does a grunt sound like……?

To me it sounds like a growl…kind of hard to describe in words.

Yep, I suppose it could have been growl like…… Bugger, I wish I had been in the room when the noise happened ( the few feet between the kitchen and the play area would have altered the sound and the second time was to brief to really get a handle on it)…. I’m just hoping that Pipi and Blossom aren’t getting all Alpha bunny in Mummy’s zone.. They are all happy families in the hutch at the moment sharing their evening salad and carrot treat.
It was such a weird noise.

Grunts sound like a fart to me, honestly. Haha. Whenever a rabbit does it that’s what I think it is at first. It’s a low, sudden sound rather than a drawn-out sound in a growl.

Here’s a good YouTube video where you can hear the grunting without cranking the speakers to 11 - http://www.youtube.com/watch and this one has more of a growl going on (although the owner was an idiot for teasing the rabbit when it was already cranky.  Jeez, talk about an idiot who’ll be complaining that his rabbit bit him “for no reason!”  ) - http://www.youtube.com/watch

Mine does it when he is *REALLY* mad at me ( like when I am trying to get him in his carrier ), it sounds like he is making angry goose honks at me

I’ll try to get a video of Samson later. It almost sounds like a guinea pig, if you’re heard them grunt. Minus the squeal/wheet sound.

Agreed with kinggoblin – it sounds like honking to me and, at least for Peppy, is usually shortly followed by a thump haha.

Jack would make both sounds — a honk (which is the low hum or buzz – deeper than a growl), when he was wooing Vivian. And a grunt or growl which sounds like a oink. The link that Quantum provided definitely sounds like Vivian’s grunts/growls — Or what I call “oinks”.
