        Hi,

        I’m hoping somebody could help me with the below…

        I’ve just come home and it looks like my pet rabbit’s eye has been running. It also has what looks like a red piece of skin which keeps moving over the eyeball when he blinks. (There’s some pictures below). He seems normal in himself. Anybody any idea what this could be? Should I take him to the vets for this?

        Thanks xx

          Ohhh poor thing it must be bothering him I would take him to the vet asap. Discharge from a bunny’s eye is never a good sign, and idk what that red thing is in his eye, maybe its a piece of string or something that got stuck and is irritating him…I can’t quite tell from the picture. You can read this article from the House Rabbit Society, but schedule a vet appointment as soon as you can. Even problems that seem “little” can affect bunnies in a significant way.

            Yes, please do take him to the vet. I don’t know what he has in his eye, but you don’t want a bunch of amateur diagnoses of the problem. A problem that may affect his vision isn’t something you want to experiment with. Even if it’s something easily removed in his eye, it may have caused damage like a scratched cornea that will require eyedrops to prevent infection. Poor guy and poor you! Best wishes for a speedy recovery to you both!

              Yes, take him to the vet. Like Rei and Quantum said, discharge is never a good thing – and, it looks like he might have torn off part of the membranes surrounding the eye…prompt vet attention, definitely!

                It definitely looks like his third eyelid was torn. He might have been scratching his eye and caught it with his nail. This happened to Wooly when he was young. His still protrudes a little bit, but the vet said the only way to fix it was to cut that part off. If that is what’s wrong with your bun, then it looks like there would be no leaving it. It probably needs to be cut off. Please take him to the vet, it won’t heal on its own. We finally had to give Wooly steroids to get the swelling to go down enough where he wouldn’t keep scratching it.

                  Oh poor guy, that looks painful. Echoing everyone else here, a trip to the vet asap is needed. I hope he is okay. Please keep us updated!

                    I agree with the others – it looks like maybe his eyelid is torn. You’ll want to take him to the vet to have that checked out, and they’ll probably give you some eye drops or ointment to treat pain, inflammation, and prevent infection. Hopefully there’s no damage to the actual cornea!

                        Yes to the vets-eye issues can cause blindness or require amputation if left untreated. Often it’s like 8$ eye drops is all that is needed, so please go soon! Keep us posted {{Vibes}}
