Hey guys!  I wasted my hard earned engineering degree from Berkeley by working in finance for the last 5 years.  Fortunately, it helped with this project!

I ordered a few posters online and they came in a 1/4 inch thick cardboard packaging tube.  These are very sturdy and they are NOT toilet paper/napkin tubes.

I sawed the tube in half and left both plastic endpieces intact.  I then cut out 2-3 notches about 1/2 way deep into the tube.  Finally, I drilled holes in the back and zip tied them to a couple long pieces of choroplast I had left over.  The choroplast provides added stability and keeps the hay from being thrown behind the cage.

When I was done, I had the two hay “pylons” or “silos”.  They look very elegant to the eye and function very well.  You can probably buy these at UPS/FedEx/Walgreens.

Hope that gives y’all some new ideas!

Also, I forgot to note – I kept about 1-2 inches at the bottom. The dust/small particles collect there and I can take it out and dump it. This system prevents some of the small particles of hay and dust from your bunny’s cage, and reducing the chance of respiratory illness.

This is a really cool idea. I’ll probably try this soon!
