I was thinking that so long as a veggie/fruit is on the “safe” foods list for bunnies, then wouldn’t it be safe if it were dried? like dried bananas, carrots, apples, etc….or do they do something to the dried ones that might not be good for bunnies? I’m obviously not going to replace her veggies with dried ones, she will get the fresh ones everyday still, but I thought that getting dried ones would be good for treats so I can train her. They would seem to be way healthier than those pet store treats :/

They add preservatives and sugar and whatnot to a lot of the dried fruit for people, so you might want to watch out for that. Oxbow makes dehydrated banana and strawberry treats. They don’t have anything added. If you have a food dehydrator, you can make dried fruit yourself.

Ok so if I find ones that don’t have stuff added to them, they will be ok. The pet store is just so expensive that I want to try and find it at a grocery store for cheaper. I’ll just have to check out all the ingredients. I should look into one.

Check the organic food section, they often have good ones there

I have a dehydrator ($30+/-) and do my own treats. they are really good. the girls love them, especially the pares, which come out much better tasting when dried, so do the strawberries. We eat them ourselves and even my dog likes them.  I do fresh also but to have a bag of treats in your pocket is so convenient.

You can get them from any store that sells kitchen appliances usually and no they aren’t expensive – $20-30 for the cheap ones, though the more expensive go up to $100+ … the cheap ones are fine though.

Just remember dried fruit sugars are a bit more concentrated, so you want to give small amounts each day.

I feed my rabbit freeze dried fruit as treats, I buy the big bag at the fresh market or earthfare and I think it has 5 or 6 smaller bags inside it. I like to eat them too, the bananas and apples are really good.
