Otter is a big fan of willow balls and grass mats but not apple sticks which I assume would be best for keeping his teeth short. My local pet store recently started carrying peeled willow balls that contain a nut (still in the shell) inside. Are these safe for my bun? I’m cautious of the nut, mostly. I’m sure the peeled willow is safe.

He is not a fan of chewing wood (except for willow) and doesn’t chew fabric.

So what toys are best for keeping those front teeth in great shape?

Nuts are quite high in protein…one nut probably won’t be terrible for a bunny but I’d likely remove it anyways and just let him have the willow ball.

As long as your bunny is getting a good diet including lots of hay as well as some playthings to chew on, you don’t specifically really have to worry about keeping their teeth short; it happens naturally when they eat .

I know what you’re talking about – petsmart here has those too, it’s one walnut or one peanut inside. I just crack one branch of the willow ball and remove the nut before giving it to the bun. The nut alone probably wouldn’t do too much damage, but no way could a bun digest the shell!

Hay is the best way to keep teeth down, otherwise willow toys are fine if that is what he likes.

Since Otter is a fan of willow, you can try to find some willow branches for him. He can also have the leaves. Just make sure you wash and dry the branches.

Great if you have a willow tree or if you know someone that has one =)
