I’m not sure I totally understand what you are asking.

What do you currently have as the flooring?

Okay, now I understand. You can use grass mats. You can try carpeting – I’m able to find carpet at Walmart that I can throw in the washer (not the dryer, have to air dry) to clean. They are rubber backed so they shouldn’t slide.

Sand paper – I wouldn’t want to walk on sandpaper either and I cannot see that sticking.

I say, since you don’t know if your rabbit will be a chewer, give carpet a try first. You can even find remnants at some places that have short fibers like indoor/outdoor type rugs.

My rabbit has carpet, the weird thing is he won’t chew or dig the carpet in his cage, only the carpet outside of it.

my bun is a carpet chewer. BUT I found out he won’t mess with low-pile carpets like door mats and stuff. So I got a couple cheap ones from home depot and on the top layer, I velcro-ed it down because he was lifting it the first night. Ever since then, we’ve had no issues. If you don’t want to mess the cage up you could do that and wait until you get him to see if he’s a chewer or not. Or you could put down towels or blankets and see how he does with those.

If you sand the vinyl, it will become harder to clean. Porky has small carpet mats in his condo and he never ever tries to chew them.
