So, my baby bunny is obsessed with a hamburger bun that I put down for a minute.  I looked over and he was trying to dig it out of the wrapper.  Is it ok for him to eat a bite of it?  Thx

No – buns, bread is not good for a rabbit at all. How old is he?

He’s 8 weeks old. I gave him a bite of it but I figured it wasn’t something he should really be eating.

Bread is not good for bunnies. Keep his food to fresh veggies, hay, and pellets. No human food other than some fresh fruit and veggies

yeah, i know but i hope a bite didn’t hurt him? i just figured it had some salt or something that he needed. he was really into it.

If he has a good diet of pellets and veggies and hay, he won’t need any added salt. Bunnies are beggars, just cuz they want something, doesn’t mean we should give it to them

Yeah I think he just wants whatever I’m eating. He also insisted on drinking my water even though he has his own.

Oh he also went nuts over a box of hard candies on my bed and licked a bunch of them before I could put them back in the box. Not sure what his deal is.

Just try to keep all non-bunny food out of their reach

Haha yeah he’s pretty crazy. The last couple days he just lay there in my lap and now he’s going nuts trying to eat everything. It was weird how into candy he was.

Bunnies have quite a sweet tooth, so going for candy isn’t that surprising once you get to know them 😉 Like MB said, just keep people food out of his reach if he’s a beggar.

Some buns are sneaky though so you have to be especially careful. Mine in particular learned how to get into the trash this week. In there he found a tasty wrapper from a chocolate chip muffin. Luckily, he only had a few bites and then I caught him. -_- guess who’s going to buy trash cans with lids from now on? <this girl

For your rabbit’s sweet tooth you can give him small amounts of banana or craisins or other fresh fruits.  It’s like candy for rabbits.

                                    That’s a good idea

If you have roses (untreated), they’re great for buns, too. Satisfies their sweet tooth without the sugar.

Haha sounds like a great system! I’ll keep that in mind.
