So I used a recipe I found from here, but I’ve been reading some things online that are making me think twice. I made Molly “cookies” and used flour, like the recipe called for. But now I’m seeing things like they can’t have flour. The cookies are made, but I haven’t given her any yet. Please give me some inputs. I used regular flour, not more than 2 tablespoons I would say, maybe 3, but still, I don’t want to poison my bun or make her sick!

In general flour isn’t good for bunnies, but it’s not poison and won’t hurt them in small quantities. I would just give the cookies in very small bits and try to find another recipe that doesn’t rely on flour.

So if I give her them maybe once or twice a week its ok you think? I made them really small maybe one inch long and 1/4 inch thick they are little moon shapes. They were her Valentine’s day present lol

I think that would be fine. Hopefully someone else chimes in.

Just saw on Binky Bunny’s store…there are cookies for bunnies for sale made with flour. It was rye flour tho, I used all purpose flour. I don’t think they are too terribly different. I will just be careful how often and how much I give her, otherwise I spent a couple hours baking for the birds outside lol

i think that would be fine-in very small amounts.

In future use pellets, oats, pumpkin and/or carrots as the dense ingredients in cookies. You can just throw those items in a blender, add a bit of water and bake I’d go just as easy on the oats as the flour, but they would be better since they take a bit of vigor to digest (and skip the quick oats, go rolled or steel cut)

When I make bunny biscuits, I grind rolled oats in a coffee grinder and they end up almost at a flour consistency. It has worked great for me as a flour substitute

All purpose flour tends to be bleached to make it so white. I don’t think it would be enough to hurt her, but I would suggest getting a bag of rye flour or whole wheat flour next time. Those generally run about $6 for a small 2 pound bag depending on where you live. In Minnesota it’s about $5.70 for a bag of whole wheat flour. But like Kokaneeandkahula suggests, I’d use more pellets and such than flour. Maybe add like 2 tbsp like you do with coconut macaroons.

I only know all this because I make home made bread on a regular basis instead of buying from the store.

Posted this blog on another thread for the birthday cake recipe, but noticed they had a cookie one too! http://amazingdwarfs.blogspot.com/2007/09/bunny-cookies.html

Thanks guys for all the input!! I will give these to her in very small amounts til they are gone, and next time will use alternative ingredients.

Kokaneeandkalua….when I bought the quick oats, the ingredients said 100% rolled oats….I thought that meant they are the same, or am I misunderstanding?

Binx86 I was actually looking up recipes on that exact same site yesterday! lol
