I had been buying my hay from the rescue I use to volunteer with (Oxbow) but the last 50 lb box I bought I cannot even get near. I start to sneeze like crazy, throat swells, eyes water and then I am like this for a few days afterward. My bunnies are also pretty picky and really don’t love the Oxbow hay. I did manage to buy a 50 lb of orchard that they loved, but the next boxes after that were long, stringy and my buns did not eat it well. I have been so disappointed in Oxbow hay lately.

I have used American Pet Diner, but with feeding 7 bunnies that gets costly (the shipping is outrageous). I have also ordered from Sierra Valley Hay and they seem just okay with the timothy hay, pick through the oat (and leave all the stiff, long strands) and have snubbed the orchard.

Do you all buy your hay locally or order it via the internet? Anyone have luck with KMS Hayloft?

This is the hay I got- http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/products/type/detail?object=1530
It’s Western Timothy. I mixed that with Blue grass hay, Botanical, & Orchard. So a variety. Panda would eat so much! I had to weigh him monthly, I thought he was gonna get so fat!

I like KMS Hay. I think they carry this at the GP Rescue too. But my last batch I did have shipped – the 45 lb box lasts me quite a while – I know have only 4 rabbits though. Never have been a fan of Oxbow.

I think thought even at the GP Rescue or even having it shipped the price will be the same – at least if it’s shipped to your home you don’t have to try to fit a big old box in your car.

Thanks, Sarita. I use to buy KMS at the GP rescue (before I had buns, so just for my piggies), but then the price jumped considerably. I priced it through the website and it looks it is a bit cheaper to ship to my house (by $4). I know that 2 or so years ago the quality was good and the pigs loved it, so I am glad to hear the quality still seems good.

              Which cut have you ordered?

I have the 3rd cut right now. My rabbits like it and I like it because it’s easy to vacuum up compared to the other cuts.

I’ve also like APD 2nd cut as well. It’s between those 2 but if I can get the 3rd cut KMS that’s my first choice.

I switched Chacha over to APD and I order via Dr Fosters and Smith. They will have amazing sales on the 5 pound bales – less than 10 dollars. Right now, it is 12.99 for a 5 pound bale, but a SET SHIPPING PRICE – amazing!

I would really like to try KMS, but I wonder if they can send samples to me?

I’m very unhappy with Oxbow right now too. I really wish I could order hay online but living in Canada the shipping is at least double the price of the hay which is ridiculous. I buy Oxbow from the pet store and spend a fortune even without the shipping.

I actually bought half a bale of hay from my horse’s barn since I was annoyed with all the crappy bags of Oxbow and surprisingly my buns actually like it. I’d tried horse hay before but they didn’t want anything to do with it. This is a really great batch of timothy and I got half a bale for $4.00 which is pretty sweet.

Have you considered getting hay from a farm?

I’m not happy with Oxbow hay right now either. The last batch of meadow hay I got I swear both my buns are allergic to. They both started have huge sneezes (like sneezing through their mouths, not just their noses). I took the hay away and a day later no more sneezing. I’ve tried other Oxbow varieties the past week and my boys won’t touch any of them.
I just ordered some 3rd cut timothy from KMS. Hopefully they like it.

I have some of BB’s stuff, one of the mini bales, and it is perfect, as always. Also, the Oxbow Oat hay I got from her seems really nice. The Oxbow I just got from Petsmart however seems sub-par. I also have some Timothy from All Living things. I think my mom got it at Petsmart as well. I was thinking about getting some hay from a feed store, but I don’t have room to store anything large right now and I don’t know where any feed stores actually are. I miss buying hay by the bale.

I’ve gotten my hay from the BinkyBunny store for several years now. I love the bale of Mature Oat when it’s available. (Sammy loves it, that is.) The Oxbow hay from there was fine, but I had a Blend Mini Bale and Sammy seems to prefer it to the Oxbow Oat, so right now I give her both.

I got oxbow mini bales of oat and botanical last week and it is like the leavings that I clean out of the buns hay box after they get all the tasty bits (just dust and tiny fleks) – ugh. Not a single long strand in the bag! Not sure what is up with them. :s
