I’ll try to make the post as short as possible…So, I rescued one of my rabbit when he was 6 weeks, and the doe at 5 weeks. The vet told me that the doe went through a really bad situation that happened to her at a young age, so it isn’t safe for me to Spay her. (she’s too fragile and weak)

My two rabbits became the best of friends, and I separated the buck when he got older (didn’t want pregnancies) He’s 6 months old now, and I got him neutered 2 weeks ago. I attempt putting him near the doe, but I expected him to try mounting her. Which he did..so now they’re still separated. Does anyone know why he still does this…and when is it safe for me to house them together?

        Thank you in advance!

Wait a couple more weeks. How big is your girl now? If she is bigger, it may be safer to spay now. I wouldn’t try bonding until she is spayed.. girls can get quite territorial.

Did your vet elaborate on why your female is too fragile and weak? A vet that will not spay a female is a red light. It means they are not comfortable doing a spay on a rabbit.

Your female is likely at the age where she is a complete ball of hormones and will need to be fixed to have a proper bond with her buddy.

According to the place I rescued her from, she under went major surgery, knowing this- my vet advised me not to spay her

Bunnies go through major surgery often enough in shelters and can still get spayed.. I would get a second opinion to be honest.

I agree, a second opinion is a good idea.

Also, don’t put the buck with her again just yet. They are still fertile for a period post-neuter. It’s recommended to keep them separated for 4-6 weeks after the neuter. I’d be wanting to get her checked out if he’s already been with her…

He may still hump down the track. Especially when they are reintroduced. They could act like new rabbits toward one another. Sometimes they do this to establish dominance. Sometimes for other reasons. It’s not always hormonal but right now I would say it is due to hormones.
