So Oreo has developed what we’ve named her fifth toe…  I don’t know how common this is, but perhaps in the furry buns like lops?  Here’s a pic, not sure if it helps, but I circled the problem area in red.  I am wondering if anyone has advice on the safest way to deal with this?  Should I have the vet trim it?  I’m worried about doing anything myself since I don’t want to hurt her…   Thanks in advance.

Leopold had one of those once. I just wrapped him up and snipped it off with the little trimming scissors with the rounded tips. He was fine.

Thanks LBJ! She has it on both her hind feet…I was just hoping there’s no skin attached. But I guess that’s not very likely? Thanks again

I don’t think it’s likely. Their feet is actually one place where the skin isn’t all loosey goosey. =p
I just held the scissors so the blades were flat along the bottom of his foot.

Bindi gets these. A bunny necessity with a super fluffy bunny like him is my Wahl Pet Trimmer. You can buy them at Wal-Mart for $10.00. I trim the foot mats off without worry of nicking skin. Also great for under the tail mats.

Otto gets these all the time, especially when he’s shedding (strangely Hannah doesn’t – they’re both lops but her fur is much shorter). I usually just pull on it a little every night to work it out. Otto’s not a fan of this, but it comes out eventually and it’s less stressful for him than picking him up and cutting it (well, the cutting it part is stressful for me!).

There’s no skin attached – it’s just a little mat that forms as hair is shedding out.

Okay, thanks so much for the tips guys! I know I’ll have to hold her to do this…she isn’t too keen on hind foot touching… Other places I could work on, but I know she’ll jump immediately. Blu had one once near his foot, but much smaller and wing-like, I worked it out no problem. Oreo has one on each back foot… Both of mine very furry and shedding a lot (as is the norm unfortunately! they never seem to stop for long!), so this may be a common occurrence.. I figured no skin but I can tell it’s a bit hardened in spots so I was afraid to go there…

I’ll just take my time.. Thanks!

Mocha had one on the bottom of his foot before and I pulled it out with my fingers. he gets tiny ones by his tail too.
