Every day I give Nova fresh water. Honestly, I have NEVER seen her drink a lick of it. I am certain that she gets almost all of her water from her very wet veggies since there is always a layer of water at the bottom of her otherwise empty veggie bowl in the morning. Yet for some reason I always feel the need to fill her water bowl to the top, which often causes me to spill it as I walk from the sink back to her cage. It is the largest bowl in her cage, I think it holds 16oz. There is no way a healthy rabbit would even be able to drink half of that, right? Especially not a leetle 3-4lb Polish! So now I fill it up about half way (8oz), and I don’t spill any more (unless I am really not paying attention!). Anyone else over-do something before realizing it was just silly?

Bonus: less wasted water = better for the environment!

I used to put my bunnies food and salads in bowls. That seems pretty silly considering they usually drag it off to chosen area of the moment and eat it

             Haha

I give the bunnies filtered water thinking “Oo they’ll love this”…uhmm no they couldn’t care less. Still, it makes me feel a little better

I thought about doing filtered water, but since I don’t actually own the brita in my dorm, I figure it is best not to do so. Plus, I have this weird fear of her not getting enough nutrients that way. See, if you use filtered water with fish, like bettas (any fish really, but I see it most with those), they will eventually get weak and die because they need some of the stuff that a filter removes. Obviously they are not bunnies… But that rule is stuck in my head for my pets.

I’m pretty sure thats a myth Ky, since you should have a charcoal filter in your tank anyway to filter the water out constantly. Its the same thing a brita or Pur does.

I don’t use charcoal because it is expensive and you don’t need it with a good cycle and/or plants (really bad for plants actually). I mean, that is a good point you made. It removes medications, and more importantly for me, tannins. It has it’s place, but it isn’t the needed like it used to be.

Though Brita does have some sort of additional Ion thing, and they even recommend on their website not to use it for fish. I will still continue to just use tap water and a good dechlorinator for my fish, and especially my plants!

The area I live in has one of the highest levels of chromium in the country. It’s still under the legal limit, but that’s why we are really adamant about using a filter and giving our pets filtered water.
