The roof leaks and mold has been growing in the rabbits’ room. It is growing on the ceiling, right where the ceiling meets the wall. The ceiling is textured too, so you can’t really scrub it. Anyway, I’m worried about the rabbits. I don’t know how to get rid of it though either. I’m worried if I spray something up there, it will rain down on the floor where the buns do their bunny things.

Anyone have this problem? How did you get rid of it?

Do you gave the “Method” products there. You get them in the supermarket. They are ammonia free products and completely safe for man and beast. The bottles are made from corn starch though they look like plastic and even they break down to nothing. They do a wonderful scrub free product I use in my shower. You’ll find it in the cleaning aisle in the supermarket.

I would definitely move the bunnies out while you treat the mold. be sure to get the roof fixed of the mold will spread, causing major issues in the house, and health concerns for everybody living there.

I know that bleach kills mold. Maybe you could move the bunnies for a few days while you clean.

Roberta: I love the Method products. They are cruelty-free!

Like my in-laws are actually going to fix the roof. LOL

Seriously though, we have had problems before. This is the first time we have found it in that specific room. I have seen Method at Target, is that the same thing? I was thinking maybe I could tape some plastic up there to catch any mist that would rain down. I could move the their cage out of the room, I’m just worried if it falls down on the carpet or something that they would be exposed to it.

I think the only thing that is going to clean the mold in the ceiling is new sheetrock…and fix the roof. Have you contacted a roofer to see what it would take to fix the roof and perhaps present that to your in-laws? I cannot imagine owning a home and not wanting to fix the roof – water can cause serious damage.

They own a duplex too that has been sitting vacant for about 15 years. The roof leaks on that one too. My husband had gone there to fix stuff (drywall, etc) because his parents said they had stopped the leaking. All of his work was ruined a few months later when the roof sprang another leak. They refuse to replace that roof. For the house we are living in, the insurance company actually told them they needed to replace the roof. That was 3 or 4 years ago. I’m surprised the insurance company hasn’t canceled the policy. But yes, ripping that part out will be the only way to get rid of the mold for good. It wouldn’t do much good to do that without replacing the roof though.

What a shame! It’s sounds like they are ruining perfectly good homes by not maintaining them :~(

They are probably the cheapest people I know. So cheap that it has gotten to the point of hypocrisy. They just let that duplex sit there. They wanted to sell it, but thought they should fix it up first. Then they were too cheap to hire anyone to do some things that really a professional should be doing. So it has sat and sat and the roof continues to leak. *sigh* Oh well, not my black hole that’s eating property tax and utilities. But I know that means nothing will be done with the house we live in either.

Alrighty, I will just try to kill it the best I can as a “temporary” solution. It’s all black and icky looking.
