So I have a lop her name is Molly. She is approaching 6 months and is scheduled to be spayed in March. I know the place doing it is realiable and has a lot of experience doing these surgeries, but I’m just worried about how best to make her comfortable when she comes home, especially since I have to work all the time and can’t constantly be by her side if she needs something. I plan on taking the day off after her surgery so I can watch over her as best I can.

I know the vet will be telling me what to do with her once I take her back home, but I was wondering if anyone else had some advice on how to make her the most comfortable? I love her so much and I hate that she has to go through this but its for the best because I want to get another bunny (preferrably a male) and don’t want babies lol plus I don’t want her getting cancer cuz I want her to live as long as she can.

Any advice on how to take care of her post surgery and any tips relieving my worries would be greatly appreciated. I’m brand new to this forum and after reading through the rules and such I feel very confident that this is a forum full of positive and helpful members

Welcome – I changed the size of your font – it was taking up alot of space and hard to read.

The attached article has some very good advice for post and pre-spay care:

I actually loved this link thank you it was really helpful. I printed it out so that I have a good reference guide as I’m dealing with her post surgery recovery.

Everything will be fine, and you’re right to do that ! It’s important to avoid cancer and it’s great for her to adopt a male.

Your doing what’s best I was really worried too when Wilbur got spayed, she didn’t eat until the next day so I ended up feeding her some Critical Care but that probably wasn’t even necessary. Good luck!

And yes, this forum is awesome, so if you have anymore questions on anything, this is definitely the place to go

It’s super hard to predict what your bun will be like after surgery, trust me! I scoured this forum for all the post spay/neuter posts before my buns got fixed, and when it was happening I was STILL so nervous!

Some bunnies don’t do much after surgery, they’re just recovering, but mine were just fine. They were pretty pissed about the cones (that seemed pretty unnecessary), but other than that, they were pretty mobile, and ate later on in the day. Some bunnies like soft surfaces like blankeys and towels, and others prefer hard surface. Just be prepared to have everything so you can cater to her needs

From my experience, post-op care isn’t that bad, provided that there are no complications. I’m sure your bun will be just fine!

The biggest thing I’m worried about is her eating afterwards, because I’ve read a lot about how this can be very bad…I stopped giving her alfalfa a while ago since she is no longer a baby, and she totally did not take to the timothy hay, so we switched to orchard grass, which she eats, but still not near as much as she ate with the alfalfa. Should maybe I buy some alfalfa to encourage her to eat while she is recovering? I guess I’m just trying to prepare for worst case scenarios…

Alfalfa encouragement is a good idea, does she have fruits or veggies she likes a lot too?

She loves carrots lol And I haven’t experiemented too much with fruit, but she ate some strawberries for me the other night, tho it took her a while to warm up to them. Maybe I’ll try some banana or apple next.
