I have a Mini Rex AND a Holland Lop mix. And I was wondering what the average lifespan of both breeds are.

The Holland Lop is fixed she got fixed when she was 2 years old. But the Rex isn’t yet; she is about 4 years old. I do plan on having her fixed; I just don’t have to money right now.

Also what is the OLDEST you have ever heard/seen a rabbit being?

        Thanks!!

I knew someone with a 14 year old bun.

One thing to think about is that the odds of your 4 year old girl having uterine cancer is very high now. 80-85% chance by age 4. So I’d get her in as soon as possible.

The guiness book of world record holder has a 15-16 year old rabbit. Still alive ,btw.

Agreed, make that spay appointment asap..

I hope my bunnies make that record. I have heard that the larger breeds have shorter life spans, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true.

              I third the spaying.

I just want to add that my Mini-Rex will be 8 in the Spring and he often still acts like a crazy baby bunny. He’s full of energy and is more active than my two 5 year old buns.

My mini rex lived to be 8, but I had hoped for 10-12 years which is what I had heard.

Consider that the cost of treating the cancer will be astronomical compared to the cost of the spay. I would get her done asap as well. Your vet may be willing to accept a payment plan with monthly installments to work off the bill. It is worth it. You will have 4-8 more years of good health together.

I don’t think you can treat uterine cancer in a rabbit, by the time it’s discovered, it’s too late.

It is not too late to spay your rabbit, but you are going to need to do bloodwork first and have a pre-spay consultation/appointment with your vet.

I didn’t know that. I thought folks with bunnies with cancer when through many visits to the vet and some meds, but maybe that’s what you do to just make them comfortable with the time that remains. (I’m most familiar with human cancer treatments.) It’s terrible to see them suffer if they have it. Still urge a spay soon.

I think it’s uterine cancer RabbitPam…once it’s discovered it’s normally too late to treat.

My first bunny when I was young had cancer, we didn’t know to get her fixed. My amazing parents did get her treated and have surgery to remove the tumors, but she didn’t live long after that It was just too much on her.

By the time cancer was discovered in my rabbit he died that same day.

I hope you don’t get too scared by all this! Just spay as soon as you can
