my rabbit’s foster mom told me that he loves to go outside and dig in the dirt, i recently bought an xpen that is 42″ high, but i’ll cover the top so he wont try and escape, and i was thinking of taking him outside so he can eat grass and dig in the dirt. howeverrr, i was thinking… what if he wants to dig inside too? recently he’s been digging and eating? the carpet; i stop him every time i see him though. i dont mind if the carpet gets ruined because we are in the middle of replacing the carpet with vinyl tiles (we stop when school starts and continue during summer break)

should i let my rabbit outside? he is an indoor rabbit btw if you didnt know. i just dont want him to think its okay for him to dig inside and outside. do rabbits know the difference? are they able to know that its okay for them to dig outside but not inside? PS. he is a holland lop (pretty sure now haha) and a male and around 6 months old

For digging, try shredding up phonebook paper and putting it in a box, a lot of bunnies love playing around in that.

I take my bunnies outside and I think they really enjoy it. The main things you have to make sure are that

          1. Your yard doesn’t get treated with pesticides or herbacides or anyhting

          2. That you make sure your bunny doesn’t eat anything poisonous

          3. That you stay and watch your bunny the entire time so he doesn’t escape or get harmed by a predator. Also you should make sure your bunny is in an enclosed area because bunnies run fast and you may not be able to stop him from escaping.

Some people argue against taking rabbits outside, but I believe that if you take the proper precautions it is safe

I would not suggest a harness. Even experienced bunny owners who do agility training with their buns have had bad accidents with harnesses. Bunnies can startle far too easily outside and having one on could break their back.

If you do want to take your bun outside, make sure it is to a secure, predator proof enclosure, than bunny can’t dig under.

I think he would love to go out in a pen to run around for a bit. I would not suggest a harness ether . Most likely he wouldn’t enjoy it at all! I would like to mention, if he is 6 month and not neutered ( not sure if he is or not, so sorry if he is) his hormones are probably crazy right now and he might continue to dig until you get him fixed.

yeah i agree harnesses seem a bit unsafe, plus even if they were safe there would be no way i could get it on him without him freaking out ._. and he is neutered, but he got neutered 2 weeks ago so i guess his hormones are still there

Hormones can be around for a month or so after the spay/neuter
