so i am extremely allergic to all hays except rye grass. i have bermuda hay which i am allergic to but its very mild. but since my rabbit isnt too crazy about it (but almost all of it by the time i re-fill it the next day) i want to get different types of hay.

i had timothy hay and he liked it but is that the best hay out there? i plan on stuffing the “yummy hay” in a toilet paper tube so hopefully that will keep my allergies down. i did that with some timothy hay and it was great. my rabbit doesnt like to eat cardboard so thats not a problem (he doesnt even want to chew on the toilet paper tube lol) my allergies didnt spur up or anything. his bermuda hay (“main” hay) is in his litter box so he can go to the bathroom and eat at the same time but if he wants a little more variety there will be a tube with some different hay laying around in his cage somewhere.

so i was originally thinking of orchard and oat, but then i saw botanical? what is that? i would really like to get 1 or 2 types of hay so i cant get all three lol. but which is tastier? and healthier? how about timothy hay? i would really like him to have a different type of “extra” hay every month or so. he will always have bermuda in his litter box because of my allergies but i would like him to eat a lot of hay so i want to have a different type of hay as well. thanks!

Check out this current thread for some ideas:

All grass hays are basically the same nutritionally so you can try out any of them. The taste preference is up to your rabbit.

Personally, I just buy a large quantity of timothy hay and that’s all they get – buying hay in smaller bags gets expensive.

alright thanks ! i would buy bales of different types of hays but they dont have any (except for bermuda and alfalfa) and plus i would re-flll the tube every other day or something. so a bag from the petstore should last a few weeks.

Oxbow Botanical Hay is Timothy hay with some dried flowers and herbs mixed in.

I buy the bulk variety box from sweet meadow farms, it comes with 2 Meadow Hay, 2 Timothy, 1 Herbs & Timothy and 1 Alfalfa, but since I don’t give mine alfalfa I just asked them to switch it out for one of the others on the order and they did.

I mix the herbs & timothy with the other hays because he lovessssss herbal or botanical hay.
