I’ve been having to get hard peices of ‘sleep’ out of the corner Pika’s left eye. When I’m stroking him I’ll notice a rough bit on his eye and I’ll notice theres a hard peice of crusty sleep there, I get them out of his eye every couple of days. Do rabbits get sleep in their eyes just like us or does he need to see a vet?

I would say vet – my rabbits never have crustiness around the eyes and it can be a sign of an infection.

A little sleep in the eye is fine. If it’s a ton of it then I would call a vet, but if its a little amount then its fine

No there’s not a huge amount, but I do find it every couple of days.

He doesn’t seem to be irritated by his eyes though, in fact he quite happily sits there while I get it out of his eyes so he can’t be in any pain at all. Plus I always notice it after he’s been sleeping so from what you’ve all been saying I guess he’s fine. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it though (excuse the pun ) and have a word with his vet just to make sure

I found it every day or every other day in Otto’s eyes when he was a single rabbit – it’s not a problem. If it’s an infection or weepy eye, it will look different, not just like little crusty things that people and other animals get.

Since getting a second bun, I never see them because the bunnies take care of each other’s eyes.

Different bunnies have different amounts of eye gunk. Leopold will get a little crusty more often than Wooly. Also, if they are a single bun, they don’t have someone else to get it out for them so you might notice it more often.

I clean little goobers out of Stormy’s eyes every day.

Mine gets little crusties too, I just wipe them away when I give him ear rubs.
