So, long story short, Ollie got up on my bed, pulled down my partly open lunchbox, pulled out the bag of Twizzlers, and finished them off for me! (The bag was 1/4 full, I’m guessing 6-10 pieces?) Quick and dirty: 1 y/o 2.25 lb female netherland dwarf

So far, she’s just zooming around the house maniacally… I’m worried about the sheer amount of sugar she just ingested. I didn’t think much of her staying in my room because we were having severe thunderstorms, and all the animals were twitchy anyway. Do I need to seriously worry here, or just keep an eye on her?

Keep a close eye on her, tons of hay and water.

And remember to put away things she shouldn’t get in to

Yeah, she’s def not getting any ‘nummies’ the next few days. I didn’t think she could get up onto my bed, which is why I always toss my lunchbox up there. I mean, it’s hip-high on me, and she’s so itty bitty.

Lunchbox in the kitchen sink from now on, unless she figures out how to get up there too!  I’m starting to think she’s Houdini reincarnated!

I would also put lots of hay out and freshen the hay up she already has to kinda peek her interest in it. Bunjamin once snuck like 5 raisins out of the treat jar on my boyfriends watch and I just encouraged hay eating until he settled down and watched his bathroom habits to make sure he was alright and he was.

As for the boyfriend? i think i put him on dishes duty all week

She should be OK, just watch and make sure she is acting normal. Signs of high blood sugar are dizziness, lethargic behavior, weird urine and lack of appetite. Since it was a one off thing, her body should process it out OK, but for sure keep the stuff she shouldn’t eat out of the way. Luckily, twizzlers are just corn syrup and dye, so it’s just sugar basically – any other snacks like that contain gelatin, which is boiled animal tissue, so at least she doesn’t have to try to process that.

Bunnies jump very high, but a kitchen sink should be safe. They are very smart though, so any boxes or anything you leave lying around can easily become a step once bun pushes it over to the area they want to get up to.

I’m sure she’ll be fine…There is more than one bunny who has eaten several hall’s cough candies on here and been ok. Put out lots of water and hay and keep a close eye …licorice-that’s like the holy grail-rubbery texture that buns love, strawberry flavor! Yikes!

@stickerbunny: She avoids the kitchen at all costs… the first time she snuck out there just happened to be when a shelf in the pots-and-pans cabinet broke, and some 30 pans came clattering down real close to her. And she doesn’t seem fond of tile at all, so hopefully that’ll help keep her out of trouble. ……I hope. *sighs* Again, I always thought that bunnies were quiet, meek and boring critters. This has been an adventure so far! *gryns*

@Kokaneeandkahlua: Dude, I never thought of it like that. Yeah, no wonder she was all bonsai onnit. She was throwing a FIT when I picked up the shredded bag after she was crated again. Growling and lunging at the bars and throwing things. She seems to be okay, thankfully, but yeah, lesson learned here. /o\

Thankfully, it wasn’t halls cough drops. I think I woulda just hauled her straight to the vet for that!!

It looks like somehow some of the forum code ended up in the post, the style sheet with the font type, table size, etc is in it. But it’s ok, we could still read it!

fixed it! I don’t know why it was like that unless it was copied from a different format like word — which is not uncommon if someone wants to proof read etc prior to posting.
