Bunjamin just drank epsom salt out of my foot soak. He is the ninja bunny. I was watching and one minute he’s gone I look all around and next his head is in my soak. I am not positive he drank any but if he did- what can I do? Is it poisonous? Please help asap. I thought of asking you guys now I’m going to research but there’s so many unreliable sites out there. The container says its magnesium sulfate. Right now he seems to be acting fine. Hopefully he didn’t ingest any. I tried to feel if his mouth was wet but could not.

I know that humans take several teaspoons dissolved in water to regain regularity and open their bowels, so possibly keep an eye on that end of things. Hopefully he’s only stuck his tongue in it and decided he didn’t like the taste.

Make sure he keeps eating hay and water and is going to the bathroom for now. I hope he’s okay!

Ok to both. I called my mom after post and she said if he ingested some it’ll be obvious within an hour. He’s giving me good hope he just sniffed it bc he’s been doing zoomies and binkies in the last 5 min

Had a look about and they aren’t toxic, in fact several of the medical sites had medicinal uses for it with rabbits. A highly dilated solution to draw moisture back into the intestines and a slightly less diluted solution for an enema to treat GI stasis.
Diarrhea is still the most likely outcome if he drank any, but they do not appear to be poisonus.

You could always give your vet a quick call just to set your mind at ease.

ok. It was quite diluted. It was for my toe that is infected so that makes me feel slightly better. that and so far no obvious change in behavior. Unfortunately my vet doesn’t have an after hours call thing. I think it does have something for cats and dogs but not buns. I did get the number and location of emergency vets and they are both about an hour away. If he started to show symptoms I’ll definitely take him. We’re watching him closely until we think it was just a sniff. He’s munching his hay. I think this was a very close call *crosses fingers*

Hopefully it was a close call In the future, you may want to do the soak where he can’t get to it

Almost 24 hours later, no abnormal activity = I’m ruling this one a very close call. My mom said they same thing MB and I have no good excuse besides I am ruled by my bunny. If I lock him up to soak my toe, he stares and shakes his cage and makes me feel like bad slave so I’ve been letting him stay out with a very watchful eye but last night made me realize I’m going to have lock him up for the 15 minutes to not worry about him dying or being sick from being a naughty ninja bunny.

Glad he’s OK. He may make some association with being locked up and the bath. Be interesting if it effects his behavior after this.

Since he already knows when the lights get lower and lower its closer to lock up time and he refuses to go in his cage for a treat, I think I’ll have to stay on my toes (haha bad pun) on creative ways for him not to know its lock up time. Well actually, hopefully the doc gives me good news tomorrow and I won’t have to keep soaking at all.

Good luck tomorrow. (Good pun, btw)

My treat cue for Sammy is to rattle the jar, even if the treat comes from a different bag. She comes running when she hears the rattle, since she will only get her treat once she’s in her house. Yes, sometimes she resists, but not often.

Bunjamin is trained to come when the treat jar is rattled but I think it’s going to take more work to teach him to go to his “room” (sounds nicer than cage or prison cell ) because there are too many softies in our family *cough cough my bf cough* who rattle the treat jar and give him a treat just for coming. I can’t deny I’m bad about treats too. we’ll have to work on it
