We got a very large New Zealand male in, he’s definitely at about 10 pounds, and certainly the largest rabbit I’ve ever had, and I want to make sure I’m feeding him the correct amount of pellets so he doesn’t gorge himself and become overweight. What’s a good amount of pellets to feed larger rabbits like him? Do you follow the same 1/4-1/2 of a cup a day rule as for smaller rabbits, or not?

Any help is appreciated. I just want to make sure I’m maintaining his weight and giving him all the nutrients he needs. And the pellet amount would be considering also that he gets 2 cups of fresh veggies a day.

its usually 1/4 per 6 lbs of bunny. Rule follows for buns of all sizes

For veggies, 2 cups is a minimum amount especially for a big bun. You may want to up that a bit as well.

Does he have 24/7 access to fresh hay?

Yup, he gets unlimited hay. I’ll just go ahead and up the veggies then to make sure he’s getting enough nutrition.

            Thanks!
