I currently have Bunjamin on the Oxbow Young Rabbit pellets sold here from BB and I was about to make my next order and wanted to include pellets but then I realized according to rabbit.org- they stop getting unlimited pellets at 7 months and Bunjamin will be 6 months on the 23rd of this month. So my question is, when do you switch from young rabbit pellets to adult pellets because rabbit.org only mentions the amount you give them not the formula. I have enough to last until he’s 7 months and I don’t think he’ll mind switching but he is on the skinnier side (in my opinion b/c I can feel a lot of bones when petting, etc). Thank you for your imput in advance!

It would be fine to switch. Young rabbits do not generally fill out until after they are a bit older.

          Cute photo.

At 7 months you should switch them off alfalfa (or at least begin the switch) and to timothy hay and pellets.

You also want to do it slowly – the bag has specific instructions on how to do this.

                From rabbits.org-
                “Previous Tips of the Month

                Safely Changing Your Rabbit’s Diet
After becoming better informed about the proper rabbit diet, many people realize that their rabbit’s diet needs to be modified. Make any dietary changes gradually. For example, only introduce one new type of vegetable at a time. If you are switching they type or brand of pellets in your rabbit’s diet, use a 25% new to 75% old mixture for the first week, a 50/50 mix the second week, and a 75/25 mix the third week. These more gradual changes will help to minimize any disturbances to the delicate rabbit GI tract.”

                Hope that helps!

yes thank you all for your input. Sadly he wasn’t always on the stuff he’s on now. I’ve had to go through some trial and error but everytime I introduced it slowly. So far that’s the only part of rabbit ownership that I’ve related to taking care of dogs. lol

BUT on the upside, I did go take the pellets (that were okay for adult rabbits) and that he rejected to the local rabbit sanctuary.

Another question- how long does pellets stay okay if kept airtight?

They should have an expiration date on the bag.
