Wasn’t sure if this would go into habitats or litter section, but since more bedding questions end up here.. I put it here and if you think it should move please do.

I use fleece blankets for my buns bed in the closet. But I can’t for the life of me get the hair out of it. It gets COATED and washing it doesn’t do anything, except get hair in my washing machine (while leaving most of it all over the blanket). What do you guys use to remove hair from blankets?

Have you tried vacuuming it or using a lint brush roller?

You might even try taking it outside and shaking the heck out it to see if the fur will fly off.

Tried the vacuum and it didn’t help lol guess I need a stronger one o.O the fur just seemed to stick to the blanket, the vacuum sucked the blanket into the little hole but the fur still clung to it. Hrm. I swear Powder sheds MORE fur than he should have on his little 6lb frame and he never looks like he’s lost a single strand.

I find the hair comes out well in wash and drier such that washer and drier are totally hairy after bunny laundry day…I am honestly considering going to a laundromat for bunny laundry instead.

I do not find that a lot of hair comes off the blanket in the wash despite the fact that the machines get coated in it. Soooo I usually vacuum it first-then wash. It helps.

I’m also just going to buy a bolt of faux sheepskin so that I can toss the hairy blankets once they stop coming clean in the wash.

That’s my plan anyways Sometimes pet blankies are just done and must go.

Hmm, laundry mat to take on the fur, good idea lol

I think I am going to try brushing the blanket, then vacuuming, then washing and see if that works. The hairs too stuck to it to come off the vacuum, so maybe brushing it will dislodge the hair.

Maybe its the type of blanket your using, have you tried a different blanket to see if it comes off easier?

I bought a few bath towels at walmart and use one fo those in the cage…. before i wash it i take them outside and shake it for a few minutes and watch the fur fly!

                      They usually come out clean!

I had that problem with Bones. I bought a hand vacuum that was made to pick up fur for $20 at Home Depot. It has a rubber piece that you put on the end to pick up the stuck on fur.

If you have a convenient back yard, I’d take it outside and shake it a lot to get any loose fur off of it first.

Then a cheap version of a lint brush is to take a very wide roll of masking tape, wrap it around your hand once, and wipe down the blanket. Turn the tape when it gets covered, and put on a fresh piece again after that until you’ve wiped the whole thing. It will stick and you just throw it all away.
