I know this may seem like a silly question, but Penelope is merely the size of a fat guinea-pig.

        I /think/ she’s a mini Rex.

How old is she? Usually rabbits are full grown around 6 months to a year, depending on what type of breed they are. The larger breeds take longer. A lot of mini rexes tend to be small  (If Penelope is the rabbit in your avatar she looks to not be a mini rex, rexes have a different type of fur).

Oh my gosh Penelope is adorable!!! So precious. At 11 weeks she is still just a baby, she has lots of growing ahead of her (most likely). Definitely not a Rex, she looks like some kind of mix, my Bridge bunny looked like her (different coloring). Do you know how much she weighs?

I don’t know how much she weighs.
                  We haven’t a kitchen scale.

Well, if you want to know when she will stop growing, you’ll know when she will be one year old.

Some rabbits will stop growing from 6 months to 12 months.

Your rabbit isn’t fat. it is normal size for her age/weight.

I wasn’t saying she was fat.
I meant that if she were a guinea-pig, she would be fat.
                      However, she isn’t a guinea-pig.
So, she’s the same size of a fat guinea-pig, but not an actual fat guinea-pig.

                      Thanks, everyone!

She’s got some large ears, if I had to I’d guess she’ll be a middle sized bun, maybe 5-6lbs? Not a rex though

                          She’s so cute!!

Looks like she’ll be growing some more

My bun was 1 pound when I got her at 8 weeks, and within a year, she is a full 4 pounds

She’ll reach her full growth by one year, so enjoy her like this now because she is ADORABLE!

Sorry, guys, but I think she’s a Mini Rex. I’m curious, why do you say she’s not? She looks exactly like Spockie did at that age – very similar coloring and shape. He wasn’t called a Rex, but a Mini Rex, but even then I don’t think they knew which for sure. Unless you buy from a breeder the breeds are never pure.

At his biggest, he was 8 lbs, but he averaged 6 lbs.

The best way to tell if you have either kind of Rex is to wait for a year also. If, as a full grown adult, the fur still feels just like velvet (not silk or soft fur) then it is all or part Rex. The face will grow to be less round in shape, too. Spockie’s coloring was exactly like yours – it’s called “broken”.

I was kinda-of anxious to soo how fast and large she’d grow because I do have a cat (who got along with guinea-pigs), and right now, since we didn’t buy our baby gate yet, I feel really paranoid having her roam right now. I mean, I don’t want to do it until she’s a bit bigger…

                                Unless there’s a way to cat-proof a baby gate/fireplace fence.

Pam, I said she’s not a rex because you can see the shag in her fur, its not the rex-y velvet sheen, and she’s got what looks like straight whiskers. She does have a similar body shape though so it is possible somewhere along the line there was rex parent, but overall shes looks like a heinz 57

Baby rabbits grow very fast! Enjoy the time with her little because by 5 or 6 months she’ll be pretty close to full size (though she might fill out a bit more until about a year old).

I agree that she may not be a rex, so in that case it would be hard to predict her final weight.

Penelope is very cute! I don’t think she is a Rex. Her coat looks like regular rabbit fur to me.

The more you look, the easier it is to see the differences though, for sure. I used to literally think they all looked the same, and since owning them, I’ve been reading a ton about the different breeds and genetics and such. It’s super fascinating!
