Today, when i let my rabbit out of her play pen it seemed like she couldn’t see anything. She was running really fast and she ran into a chair leg. Then, she ran into a few more things, and i don’t think it was on purpose. Her eyes aren’t cloudy or anything, but in the summer she had an eye infection. The eye drops didn’t completely stop the discharge, but there was less. It’s been going on for a while- my vet suggested a massage to help clear the tear ducts and that sort of helped too but it never actually stopped. Are there any home remedies to help with my situation? Could this make her blind, the eye infection? I read that, to test if your rabbit is blind, put your finger in front of its eye and if it blinks it means the rabbit is not blind. I’ve tried that and apparently she isnt blind…

Also, i have another question. I’ve been to a few supposedly very rabbit savvy vets but none of them know why my rabbit makes the loud noises that she does. It sounds like a cross between snoring and whining- it’s pretty loud and she makes that noise all the time- it started with the numerous vet visits in the summer and my vet guessed it was because of stress. ??
she does it when shes sleeping, and she does it when im petting her (she still asks to be petted, so i dont think it’s because shes scared or stressed…)

Im taking her to the vet tmrw, but If you could help that’d be great, i really appreaciate it. Thanks !!

the sound could be her grinding her teeth, but it shouldn’t be loud, has her teeth been checked? I think I’ve read teeth problems can cause eye problems.

The bold statement is false. Rabbits CANNOT blink. That’s why most companies test on rabbits because their eyes cannot blink.

Is your rabbit fixed? If not, then it is normal for rabbits to make weird sounds.

…I’ve seen my buns blink? They just don’t do it as often as I do…

Alteration also doesn’t/shouldn’t have anything to do with the noises a rabbit makes.

Rabbits don’t really blink like humans do but they will react and close their eyes if something gets too close to them (just like a human would). My bunnies mostly sleep with their eyes open, so creepy

Rabbits usually do make those noises when they are stressed, scared, in pain, or think they are in danger. Is there any common event that happens when she makes those noises?

                  Is it honking?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx9XWog4p08

Honking is a sign of happyness.

Samson makes all kinds of noises. She honks, growls, grinds her teeth. Shes a chatty McChatterson. And she’s spayed. Even when she growls I’m pretty sure shes happy, because when she does it she’s charging me to get pets. Like she has to intimidate me to groom her, haha.

I don’t know. I’ve accidentally poked Wooly in the eye because I thought he would close his eye and he didn’t. LOL

                    He’s not blind though.

Yes rabbits can blink. The nitty gritty is that they immobilize the eye to test. They test on rabbits because they have similar reactions to us and are cheap.

Annyways Bunmum-your bunny should be examined by a vet, soon; perhaps a different vet. The eye thing and the breathing thing should be seen and diagnosed and treated by a rabbit savvy vet. Try http://www.rabbit.org/vets/index.html here to help you find a vet who can help.

If there is an abscess in the mouth, there will usually be some swelling and discharge coming out of the eye if untreated.

I have read that rabbits do blink. The most is 2-4 times an hour, and we humans do not see it.

Also, even spayed and neutered rabbits still honk. I get it all the time

Let us know how it goes if you decide to take your bun to the vet.
