I’m just wondering if roses are okay for rabbits to eat because Riley is going INSAINE over roses in my room!

I have a couple of roses in a vase in my room{where my rabbit is} and i have the vase high up and away from Riley. The first day i had them out he was going crazy and tried to get to them , which he couldnt. But this moring i let him smell them { idk why im not the smartest at times } and he bit one. If theyre okay for rabbits then i plan on giving it to him soon as a snack! Thanks!

I know for sure dried roses are fine. I checked the House Rabbit Society’s list of poisonous plants and roses are not on the it, so I think fresh roses are okay too. But where did you get the roses from? Most roses from stores have pesticides which are harmful to bunnies.

They are ok as long as they have not been treated or dyed. I wouldn’t give them any roses you got from a store as you don’t know if they have been treated. But if they came from your own garden (or they are organic) and you know they aren’t treated they are fine. Their are some treats in the BinkyBunny store that have dried Rose buds in them if you wanted to see if he likes them.

They should be fine as long as they are not treated with anything. In addition to what the BB store sells, I found a rabbit rescue store that sells the dried rose petals only. Bumblebunny seems to know if I even open the container; he comes running from the other room. If I could have a garden that is one thing I would try to grow so he could have them as treats.

Yup, roses with no pesticides, treated, or dyed are great treats for your bunnies. My bunnies eat Rose petals and rose leaves. They loove them fresh

I have been giving my Sadie rose petals for years..it’s a special snack? he loves them.. I limit it to 3or4 at a time… Sadie is 11 and through the years I find that he won’t eat things that are poisonous.. he just doesn’t eat them… I gave him some lilacs today without thinking first.. and they aren’t poison either to the bunnies.. and they Love them too.. since lilacs are here then gone so quickly tomorrow I’m going to freeze the individual flowerettes and see how they stand up to it… I truly couldn’t believe how much he lived them.. ?

This is an old thread, but its still true that roses are safe, as long as they haven’t been treated with pesticides. The whole plant is fine for rabbits, my bun prefers the leaves to the petals. It’s really nice to dry rose petals for buns, if you have (untreated) rose bushes. They keep most of their color and scent.
