How long does it take for a rabbit’s fur to grow back? Wilbur was spayed in the end of October, most of the fur on her tummy has grown back but an area hasn’t yet. The area is way above where her incision line was so I’m puzzeled as to what would make it not grow back. Wilbur is so plushy and fluffy but has never gone through a molt yet, she’s almost 8 months and I’ve had her since she was 8-10 weeks, is that weird?

Rabbit fur definitely grows in cycles and so it can be bald for awhile and then bam…peach fuzz and fur in s short amount of time.

I am not sure why though it has grown back except for one area not near the incision line.  Does she lick that area at all?

One other thing… I do notice that fur can also grow back in funky patches at times, so maybe this is just a goofy thing like that.  Does the area look red or irritated or flakey?

Oh, You should see my baby girl Pepper. Talk about bald spots. We had an oops litter and as she had her summer coat the fur was sparse to begin with before she started pulling it for the nest, now she looks positively disreputable. It was that bad that she decided Piglet could also contribute, he took to hiding under the day bed to avoid being plucked.
Atleast the pink has gone and there is a fine layer of fur but the base fuzz is white so it really stands out against her black coat. Its taking a very long time to regrow but being summer and extremely hot I’m not expecting miracles. Until the weather starts to cool and her Autumn coat starts to sprout she is probably going to have sparse areas that look dreadful.

Oh okay well that’s good to know! As far as I know she doesn’t lick the area and the skin is a pale pink color.

One of our members had a bunny that had some procedure done that required shaving, and it seemed to take months to grow back. It was as if it didn’t come back immediately, but after the next shed, it began to grow when that fur came in. As long as it is not swollen or discolored around the site I wouldn’t worry.
