I’ve seen him a couple times trying to go to the bathroom and nothing happens. He’s lunging and grunting at Wilbur. He’s not really interested in in eating his pellets but I’m getting him to eat hay. I think his poops are smaller, I saw two that were smooshed (but it could just be that he stepped on them). Is it probably okay to wait until tomorrow or should I take him in today (my vet is closed today)? Also will it break Totoro and Wilbur’s bond if I keep him in the xpen and have her free in the rest of the room? I just don’t want anyone to get hurt. I’m trying to think if there could be anything that he could’ve gotten into recently and I can think of nothing. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

          I wouldn’t separate them.

I think as long as he’s eating his hay you should be okay to wait and see your vet tomorrow.

              Okay, thank you!

Edit: I think he’s doing okay for the moment right now, bontanical hay is a savior, his poops are now normal size. I still want to get him checked out asap tomorrow because I don’t think it’s normal for bunnies to try to go to the bathroom but can’t.

Straining is a sign of a problem, so I am hoping you were able to get him an appointment today.
Let us know what the vet said.

I got an appointment for 1:00 p.m. today. The vet thinks it’s a UTI and the diet changes are probably because he’s in pain. Poor guy  He doesn’t appear to be in pain, but rabbits are so good at hiding that they are. If he does have a UTI would that be something I did wrong (like food wise, ect.)?

Probably not. I would write a list of all the foods you give him and the vet can easily tell you what to cut out either temporarily or permanently.
If you’re on Eastern time you may be back by now, in which case, how did it go?

A UTI is caused by bacteria and it wouldn’t be caused by diet. Sludgy urine or bladder stones may possibly be caused by foods high in calcium, such as kale, but not everyone thinks those are diet related either. It is usually suggested that a rabbit who has recurring sludge or stones should not be fed alfalfa, kale or other foods high in calcium.

I hope that Totoro responds well to his medicine or treatment and feels better very soon!

Central time lol. Well they took some kind of culture and I’m waiting on those results. Once those come in the vet said she’d prescribe a antibiotic. I hate waiting like this knowing he’s so uncomfortable

                        Thanks for your guys’ help!

The vet asked me to bring him in this morning so I did, I get him back tomorrow afternoon. I don’t like not having him here but I know he’s in good hands.

                                  Thank you everyone!

He’s okay, he doesn’t have anything (the vet said his droppings are not normal, that’s why they wanted to keep him). The vet thinks he is still adjusting to having good food in his tummy, she said he was in really bad shape when the humane society first got him. I’m happy that it’s just that

I hope that his tummy gets adjusted very soon and that he presents you with lots of piles of big, healthy droppings!
