Cheddar has been trying to hump Poopy every day and all the time for about two months now. He’s never tried so hard at anything. He can never really get her because she won’t have it and she’s way quicker than him.

Is this normal for him to want to hump so much? I’m concerned that he’s getting frustrated/depressed because he can’t get Poopy.

Bunnies “hump” like that to show dominance. i have a rex and a dutch and my rex, Frank is HUGE and yet tiny little Mimzy just IS the dominant bunny! she humps his face every other day or so to let him know whose boss! silly girl!

Oh yes, he is neutered. Has been for a while now.

Ahahahahaha!! Sorry. This just made me laugh.

Ummm…….have you tried a stuff animal? Maybe he’d be content with a substitute Poopy. ??? I don’t have any good advice. Evidently he feels the need to establish his dominance and Poopy’s not cooperating. lol Just curious – who’s the normal dominant one?

You all know Cheddar and he is the laziest bun ever, so it’s really surprising that he doesn’t just give up.

Poopy is the dominant one and always has been. Cheddar has no problem with that and really loves her. I don’t get why he’s so aroused all the time (for a more PC word).

This reminds me of BB’s Jack – he was obsessed with humping and it turns out he had bladder sludge/stones that were causing him pain and making him act out. Has Cheddar had any issues? I don’t think it’s necessarily worth a vet visit right away, but it’s something to talk about the next time you go in.

Hannah is a chaser (she never humps because Otto won’t sit still for it) but she does go through periods where she’s more intent on chasing than others and then it passes. I wonder if it’s related to weather or something else I can’t figure out.

Ditto^. I was thinking of Jack also.
Humping is not always hormonal or dominance. Sometimes it can be stress related too.

Hope you can sort out the problem!

zpipes, it can be a learned behavior. But neutering helps a lot.

With Powder who was obsessed with humping as well, I was able to teach him NOT to do it with a little help from Stickers. He would hump the poor girl if he caught her until I came over and pushed him off, non-stop, never ending, not let her eat, flop, use the litter box, drink etc. He ended up getting the squirt bottle if he bugged her too much (a few times ok, 20-30 minutes straight… no).

Cheddar is still doing it. He does this snort before he starts to run or when he is running to hump her. It creeps me out to hear that sound come out of my innocent bear.

Maybe get a vet to make sure he isn’t having the same kind of problem BB’s Jack had? Hopefully it isn’t, but I think for yours and Poopy’s peace of mind it may be a good idea
