Caramel has not eaten his pellets for three days, I’ve been out of timothy hay for 2 days, will get to the store tonight to buy more, He’s eating carrots and apples, but I also need to get to the store to get him some greens. So basically for the last two days he’s been only eating carrots and apples. Should I be concerned! Cause… I am totally starting to freak!!

If his eating habits have changed it’s a good idea to have a vet check him out. It could be his teeth or any number of things.

Also he needs to be eating a majority of greens along with the hay. Apples and carrots should not be the bulk of his diet.

Oh dear. No hay for 2 days? Hay is the MOST important thing in his diet. If he isn’t eating hay, he could get a serious tummy problem.

Apples and carrots are both treats, he needs hay and greens. In the future you might want to either stock up, or buy more before you see the bottom of the bag

He actually survived for over a year on no hay, or greens! So I’m sure that no hay or greens for a few days is not the problem. I’ve contacted the Vet and we are going to try a new bag of pellets as there may be a problem with the remainer of the bag I do have.

Lack of hay is definitely a problem. Just because in the past he managed, doesn’t mean it won’t cause problems now. Hay should be 90 to 95% of his diet.

Lack of hay can lead to tooth problems, since hay is the best thing for wearing down their teeth. Tooth problems can lead to not eating pellets, as it is painful to chew them. Also, hay is the best thing for their digestion, so lack of it could lead to a blockage. So while itself is not a problem, it does help to prevent problems that could be the cause of him not eating.

Is he still showing OK digestive movements? (IE: pooping)? If not, I would worry about a blockage, which can become fatal if not treated.

Being out of hay for 2 days and not bothering to get more is a big deal.  Even Walmart has timothy hay, and as far as I know all Walmarts are open 24 hours.

When I need greens but am low on time, I’ll run to Wendys/McDonalds/whatever and get a garden salad with no croutons or dressing.   Voila, bunny meal on the go.

Bunnies need a consistent diet.  Perhaps buy a large amount of hay so you won’t be running out anytime soon.

PHEW!! Glad I called the vet on this one!!
It has nothing to do with him not eating hay for 3 days!! Just to inform everyone that insisted that that was the problem!!
It was his bag of pellets, they must have not been sealed properly. So I did as the vet suggested and bought another bag of pellets and voila! He’s eating his pellets again!!

I’m very glad he’s eating again!  But not having hay for 2 days and feeding nothing but apples and carrots IS a problem.  To avoid this panic in the future be sure to have hay and greens available at all times.
