Hi guys, this is my first forum post ever… in my entire life. I am not exactly sure HOW a forum works? But I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon. Anyway, I am interested in adopting this one rabbit; that is currently located in a foster home, we emailed a bit and she sent me a photo of him! Very cute bunny! But I was a tad… ‘disappointed’ at his living conditions… He has one of those “Prevue” cages with the wire bottom and his little feet are stained (the dis-coloring doesn’t bother me, I am just saying). He just got neutered a couple days ago so they didn’t litter train him; that’s reasonable i suppose. Do you think this rabbit looks healthy? I asked her if he would be a good first rabbit and she said that he would be. So I’ve got my hopes up (x . Here is a picture of him, PS sorry the picture is so small! It was way bigger when I opened it through my email, but I guess it shrunk when I saved it and sent it to flickr.

Well, The whole point of adopting an animal of any kind is to give it a better life… So I would say the simple answer is yes. Seriously, if you are concerned about his well being are you going to be able to live with yourself if you walk away and then constantly wonder what happened to him. Grab him with both arms and give him the life he deserves.

I agree with Roberta. About 6 years ago when I got my bunnies I didn’t even want rabbits at first, but they were outdoor, living in a metal bottom hutch, poorly fed, didn’t have hay, and their main diet was old celery. They were also abused, and mistreated physically. I took them so I could make their lives better. One lived till 7 and the other is about 8 now and is still doing good.

I’d say go for it to better the buns life.

He looks good to me. Just keep in mind that his hormones are all out of whack as he just got neutered, so his behaviour in the next month will be a bit different than what it will be after that

And hopefully he will be brought home to a nice spacious indoor home

I agree with Roberta. Since you’ve seen picture and already shown concern for him, you’re probably already attached and it’ll be very hard on you not to take him. If he will be your first rabbit, be sure to check out the information on rabbits on this site. I’m a new owner (I’ve only had my rabbit for about 3 months) and I find this site is one of my best resources. Let us know what you decide!

His living conditions are a reason to, not a reason not to. It sounds like you already like him – so arrange a meet and if you want him, adopt him. I adopted Powder from a tiny, metal box with a metal grate in the shelter and first day home he was a happy bunny exploring around (though skittish) the house. If there are no known medical issues, some may spring up, but that is the risk with any animal (breeder bought or adopted). He is a real cutie.

If you get him and need any help getting him all set up, come back and ask any questions you have.

He is adorable. Like others said – I too was not really interested in having rabbits – my kids thought it would be fun. And then low and behold we drove by a moving sale with 2 really stained dirty bunnies in a tiny wire cage. So guess what we have 2 bunnies who have a huge NIC cage plenty of time out of their cage, fresh hay and tons of veggies!

So if you can provide him with a great home I say why not – especially since he is already neutered!

Welcome! From the picture there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him…I’d say go ahead . Make sure you read up on rabbit care beforehand though, and this site (as well as rabbit.org) is a great resource.

I agree, get him! He looks adorable! Monkeybun brings up a good point – If and when you do get him, don’t be disheartened by his behavior for the next couple of weeks since his hormones are still all wacky. He will most likely calm down some. Good luck with your new rabbit!

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

                          Welcome

I think you should get him, you’ll be giving him such a better life. I also agree with Monkeybun, his personality for the next month won’t likely be permanent. I would suggest that after you adopt him take him to the vet for a healthy bunny check up just to get a basline and how much pellets he should be eating a day. Do you know his age?  It is great that he is already neutered, saves money for you! He’s handsome

Welcome and congratulations on your very first forum post. Glad you decided to post here!

There really is no way to know the health of Bunny fully from a photo. Tooth issues or internal illnesses you wont be able to see but the person who is fostering should have some basic knowledge of any health problems. Also since this is a foster situation, sometimes the shelter or rescue will have their bunnies checked out by ever when they take them in and so this bunny may have examination results. You can always ask about that as well.

That Dutch bunny is very cute though and so why not meet him and see if you connect.

Good luck and be sure to keep us updated

Most foster homes are probably not able to house a bunny like an acclimated house bunny. If I brought a foster rabbit into our house and expected them to behave like my bunnies- I would be in for a big surprise. I don’t know the rescue or foster- but often at first you have to use what they are used to and acclimate them to a more ideal living situation.
And for all 3 of my bunnies- I have upgraded their living conditions- 3 had been in pet store cages- solid bottom filled with bedding, and one from a breeder with wire bottom on wood boards for wire relief.

I must be too late bc the link is displaying a picture not of a bunny. But I bet he’s cute! I’d say go for it. You’ll have to let us know what you decide!

thanks guys! i visited him and hes very friendly; hes now staying at a pet store called pawls pets. its very similar to pet land (the open top cage)except they foster rescue animals a long with some of their own animals (only small animals and fish and reptiles)
