I’ve been pretty lucky with oxbow’s orchard grass. The only reason I’m not buying it anymore is because I found a local place that sells 90-100 lb bales for $21!

oh wow score! I looked a little locally but couldn’t find anything I didnt have to drive to a complete strangers house to buy so I gave up. Is still much cheaper at 50lbs than individual 40oz I was buying

Yep yep, and the quality has never failed to impress me! I have picky Lago’s approval on that.

                Thanks for mentioning the website.
Looks like I might be buying a 50lb bale in the future.

In most places hay is just cut during the summer- so as long as hay is stored properly it does not really go stale. Hay that was cut in Summer 2011 needs to last til Summer 2012. Most places should have high enough turn around that hay is used within that year or so. The only problem with hay that sat 2 years is possibility of more dust- and eventually it loses nutrients but NOT within a normal time frame of 1 to 1 1/2 years- is that I think I read somewhere.
If it was May of 2011 and hay had not been cut for the Summer yet (and it would not have been in Michigan)- I would have no problem buying hay that was cut from Summer 2010- as that is all you will find.

I just bought 3 40oz bags of Oxbow Orchard hay, 2 of which were extremely stale, the rabbits wouldn’t even look at it.  The 3rd bag they inhaled Which is why I’m concerned about the 50 lb bale of hay
