Have any of you tried wheat hay? Is it bad for bunnies?  The place I buy my hay offers wheat hay so I thought I would try it. It has a moderate amount of protein (7.7%, which is comparable to Orchard Grass), but what I really like is it’s extremely low in calcium (.13%, the lowest of any hay). Rosy has a hard time excreting calcium because she can’t posture correctly. She gets enough calcium in her veggies so I would prefer a low-calcium hay. My bunnies LOVE the wheat hay. I just want to know if it’s OK before I get more.

I feed Bumblebunny a mixture of Oat, Wheat, and the BB Bunny Blend Hay. He loves them all. I hope the Binky Bunny store will be able to get the oat and wheat hay next season, it’s a little harder to find really good hay since it was a bad season. I have heard that too many seed heads in oat and wheat can lead to weight gain in the bunny so if there are a lot I take some of them out and use them as treats.

              Sounds like it is okay.
