I have noticed that Tipsy has reached her sexual maturity lately.  She has been circling around me and deliberately missing her litterbox (she poops just as much, eats as much as she normally does, acts as goofy as she normally does, just doing her new found hormal changes).  But last night, she did something funny.  I dont know if I am just being silly or if she was just being silly or if this is just a silly question… but when she was circling me, she started pooping!  I know, at least I think I do, that sometimes pooping can mean marking kinda the same as peeing but not strong to get the point across I am sure, but, was that her attempt to show me that not only has she reached sexual maturity but that she is also becoming a little more dominant?  Maybe I am being silly… idk, but, even when she does go poo, she does go in the vicinity of the box and in it… and her recent missing it could also be because we just came home from a 5 day vacation from my parents house and she was in a new place.  What are your thoughts?

Here is a picture from our Thanksgiving vacation!!  Some backyard fun!

Oh and BTW, she is getting spayed next month, I am waiting till I get done with my semester of college and so that we have a lot of time to rest and recuperate at my parents house instead of driving back to school immediately after. Figured waiting was the better option for her. Also, we are close to the vet if anything happens within the few days of her recuperation, cause if I drive to school a day after the surgery and something happens, I dont want to stress her by putting her in the car and riving back.

It could be that she’s back in a different place – mine usually let a few poos fly when they go to a new place and then when they come home.

Since she was circling you though, I think it could be some hormonal thing.

I think it’s a good idea to wait and do it at your parents’ house – I know neither of my buns were ok to travel the day after they were fixed. Hannah didn’t even eat for 3 days after being fixed, but she’s a bit of a sissy

Sounds like a bit of both to me. I agree about waiting too.

Great action shot! She’s such a pretty rabbit.

Yeah, I was afraid to travel with her and afraid to miss any school, so I figured, I may go insane with her hormonal sassiness for now but at least she will be comfortable in the end. I am just glad she only humped my boyfriends leg and not mine!! At least I still have a say in the bunny/human relationship haha (for the time being)

Thanks Sarita! I have a bunch more pictures and will put up a bunch more on my bunny blog!!

My bunny Olive was impeccably litter trained until a few weeks ago (this was before she met Simon, a neutered male–Olive is spayed). Now she’s constantly leaving little turds everywhere and it’s driving me insane. This started before Simon came to live with us (they are bonded now) so I just figure it’s one of those things I have to put up with. She leaves piles of poo in her litterbox, and always pees in there, but sheesh–it really is driving me nuts. Good luck with the end of your semester and your bunny’s surgery!

Oh goodness Piperknits! Do you think it is just because of the change and its her form of retaliation? Hopefully it will end soon. It puts such a damper on my noggin to have to pick up after her when I let her run around my parents house because then my mom gets very frustrated that she is pooping, but then I have to reassure her that at least she is not a Great Dane and they are in scoopable forms.
And thanks! I am just ready to get out of the research class, I mean, I did learn a lot, but those teachers dont really know much about animal behavior outside of the lab. My teacher who gave me Tipsy told the class that thumping is primarily a sign of happiness and that rarely do you ever ever spay or neuter a rabbit, I told her I was going to spay her soon and she asked me why and I told her because she is getting hormonal and she would be easier to littertrain and live longer… and she told me that you are not supposed to fix rabbits, or that you really dont. IDK… course, they only ever deal with rabbits that are fully intact. Oh and when I told her that she had started to circle my feet she asked me what that meant! Clearly, they do not know the behavior and language of lagomorphs.

I am so thankful that she has a home with you. Even if she’s making a bit of a mess right now, she is so lucky to be out of those conditions and the care of people who have no idea what they’re doing in terms of making a rabbit HAPPY. And I agree, she is just breathtakingly beautiful!

I”m not sure what’s going on with Olive.  She started doing this before Simon ever came along, but she may continue to do it because he’s around and she’s still slightly territorial, though that’s just a theory, because they are now bonded and  I think it’s just  “her way” .   It’s annoying, but not nearly annoying as peeing everywhere (which thank goodness she doesn’t do outside her litterbox).  As annoying as it is, I’ll take the poop over the pee in this case.

I’m glad you found BinkyBunny and know that spaying and neutering is a must for most pet rabbits (barring any health issues–it actually prevents uterine cancer, which female rabbits have an 80% or greater chance of contracting before the age of three).  It also makes them easier to housetrain.  In theory.
