I hope this is in the right place. I’m not sure where else to put this question!

I am, unfortunately, super sick at the moment, and I want to slather myself in Vicks Vaporub like I normally do when I get like this. However, the last time I was this sick, I did not have a rabbit sharing my bedroom with me. I am worried that the strong scent of the Vicks will bother or harm Chester.  He is still not 100% settled from his most recent move (he still refuses to check out the upper levels of the condo my Dad and I spent weeks making) so I don’t want to move him out of my room while I stink of Vicks only to move him back in when I’m better.

Does anybody know if the smell of Vicks will be bad for him? Or offend him?  I know it’s a pretty powerful scent (not that I can smell it right now, I’m so stuffed up!)  and if it will bug/hurt him, I’ll suck it up and go Vicksless or maybe stink out my family in the living room for a few hours.  But before I do anything, I wanted to make sure!

I hope you feel better soon. Vicks is not harmful for rabbits. Will the smell bother or offend him…it’s hard to say, I would give it a try because it will make you feel better. I just wouldn’t hug him or pet him when you initially put it on.

I’m kind of a Vick’s addict myself…the stuff is good.

I have to put vicks on my toe (no joke) and when I got Buns and I was sitting on the floor with him when he sniffed me he got to my toe (covered in a bandaid) and sniffed it really good then did a “pfft” and ran to explore something else. So I know it’s nothing something he wants to smell directly but that event didn’t harm him. So I’m not an expert but I think it would probably be okay to use it as long as there is some space between your (bed) and his condo or wherever he’s at and dont pick him up when you’re wearing it. Hope you feel better!

Thank you Sarita and FrankieFlash! I super appreciate your advice. I am about to Vicks it up now and I will get my mom or dad to see to Chester this afternoon, that way I won’t inadvertently get any Vicks on any of his things and won’t torture him with the smell. He’s in the middle of some major home renovations right now (I never seem to put things in the right spot for him) so I’m hoping he’ll be so busy with that he won’t notice the stinky human in the room!

              Thank you again

I think you need to be in very close proximity to smell the Vicks. I was sick last week (and I also LOVE Vicks!) and my husband who was sleeping only a foot away from me said he could smell it a little but it wasn’t overpowering.

I kept away from him as much as possible! Which was more like, he stayed in his corner, I stayed in mine. When the room got too stuffy, I cracked the window open a bit for some fresh air. But Chester did not get overly nose twitchy or seem to be bothered by it! Which is a good thing because it’s gonna be Vicks Central for a few days here

Thank you again for the help! It’s so reassuring to be able to ask these wonky questions

That was a good question. I wonder about stuff like that, too. Put benedryl in a tube on mosquito bites on my feet last night and put on socks in case it might be bad for my bunny, so I understand. I actually can’t figure out how she stands the smell of my feet some days when I’ve been out walking in the heat. Blech! And she kisses them. Ewe.

Hope you’re starting to feel a little better. bunnies know when you’re sick and sometimes will stay nearby to keep you company.

Chester is a feet kisser, too! Well, kind of a wannabe sock nibbler.

And I am definitely feeling better, thank you! The Vicks totally helped. So glad it’s bun-safe!
