        Hey everyone,

I just got a rabbit right around the time I made this account. A few weeks ago. His name is Panda, he really doesn’t have a “personality” much. I want to bring that out in him! How do you think I can make him more active and have a personality! Dig deep? He is 3 years old. Still young! I will share a photo soon!! <3 Another question is about veggies!! How much veggies should I give and a variety or not?! I admit I should have read up on this! I am just the busiest person just about ever And what about fruit? I haven’t weighed him yet. Can you use a human scale xD I know I am stupid! lol  But I do know he gets alot of excersize! He has free run over a whole room! And a HUGE Rabbit condo! And some nice toys! haha…I love him <3 I hope you can help!! Thanks!!

I had a Panda bunny before, loved him. Okay, well, I would not jump to the conclusion that he doesn’t have a personality…he may just be a mellow rabbit and he is adjusting to his surroundings too. Getting a rabbit to trust you, that takes time. Just let him be him, don’t force him to be anything and he will come out of his shell.

Where did you get him? Do you know what he was fed before? If not, then start slowly with one veggie at a time and build up to a variety. Start simple like Romiane or parsely and work up.

He’ll get out and exercise eventually, give him some time.

Haha you may just have a chill bunny. My Bridge bunny wasn’t very active at all (of course he was sick) but was definitely not lacking in personality – his personality was to be easy going and people oriented. One of my bunnies now is absolutely crazy and full off attitude and the other just goes with the flow (I call him “the pancake”). But also if you just got your bunny he is more than likely still settling in and getting used to you. Do you know what his situation was before? He might have been in a scary one or not one that allowed him to be trusting of humans/environments.

About the weighing, the best way is to have the vet do it first. If you haven’t already it is a very good idea when adopting a new rabbit or any pet for that matter to have a wellness check up done. Do you have a rabbit savvy vet? As for weighing at home, electronic kitchen scales work the best, the human ones aren’t accurate enough because most of them won’t detect the bunny at all and don’t take into account ounces, which is important.

Sarita: I got him from a girl who rescues bunnies. So he is a rescue. I think his owner before locked him up in a tiny space! I will just have to give him space! Well.. He has a whole room lol And the girl I got him from took him to the vet for one last check~up before handing him over to me, the bunny lovin freak! As for the whole thing of what he ate. Ummm I think it was JUST Pellets!!! Sad isn’t it!? People need to know about the animal they have! It is very iportant to take proper care of your pet.

FrankieFlash: Is your rabbit’s name Frankie? If so..ADORABLE!!!! <3 And haha yeah send me some enthusiasm for Panda lol..JK He has a mellow adorable personality! <3 IT will get bigger opefully <3 I hope to bond with him! Such a sweetie!

haha he has a bajillion names. When I originally sexed him we thought he was a girl, just turns out he hadn’t hit manhood yet. When it was a girl, it was just buns so his official name is Bun Franklin or Bunjamin Franklin. For a while I was calling him “frankie flash” because of his bunny 500s (like when I made my account on here) but pretty much never call him that anymore. He’s Bun or Bun Bun to me.

sorry if you weren’t asking for an explanation but either way I sent some positive thoughts for him to come out of his shell. He will in time. I’ve had some pets before that I receive from not so great owners and almost all have bounced back eventually when they trust you and get yummy treats (veggies) from you. That’s when Bun really started interacting with me was when he got goodies.

P.s. panda is a really cute name

It’s always a good idea to get a male neutered, and the quicker the better. A couple days ago I found out that sometimes if you don’t have them altered early enough some of the bad habits like spraying will continue even after being neutered. The recommended age is about 4 months for boys, I see your rabbit is 3 years, and that’s still okay. Haha and yes a rabbit savvy vet is a vet that knows rabbits well.

Here is a list of suggested veggies from the HRS. Go slowly and just try one at a time since Panda may never have had veggies before, otherwise he might get a stomach upset. When he is used to them, he should get a variety of at least 3 veggies a day. Some say a total of 2 cups of veggies a day, but I think that several of us give more than that. Fruits should be given sparingliy, to avoid too much sugar intake. Apples, pears, raisins, craisins, papaya, peach, blueberries, melon, strawberries and plums are some good ones. Bananas are usually a favorite of rabbits, but they can be addictive so they should certainly be limited.

Select at least three kinds of vegetables daily. A variety is necessary in order to obtain the necessary nutrients, with one each day that contains Vitamin A, indicated by an *. Add one vegetable to the diet at a time. Eliminate if it causes soft stools or diarrhea.

                          Alfalfa, radish & clover sprouts
                          Baby bok choy
                          Basil
                          Beet greens (tops)*
                          Bok choy
                          Broccoli (mostly leaves/stems)*
                          Brussels sprouts
                          Carrot & carrot tops*
                          Celery
                          Chinese celery
                          Cilantro
                          Clover
                          Collard greens*
Dandelion greens and flowers (no pesticides)*
                          Dwarf choy sum
                          Endive*
                          Escarole
                          Gai long
                          Green peppers
                          Kale (!)*
                          Mint
                          Mustard greens*
                          Parsley*
Pea pods (the flat edible kind: snow pea or sugar snap pea)*
                          Peppermint leaves
                          Raddichio
                          Radish tops
                          Raspberry leaves
Romaine lettuce (no iceberg or light colored leaf)*
                          Spinach (!)*
                          Watercress*
                          Wheat grass
                          Yu choy

(!)=Use sparingly. High in either oxalates or goitrogens and may be toxic in accumulated quantities over a period of time.
