The bill is to set up a firewall that can block U.S. citizens from visiting any website they deem unlawful – it is for piracy (so they can block say, russian mp3 sites since Russia is so much more relaxed about copyright laws) but many people are upset over the fact it is a lot like the way China blocks out its citizens from sites it doesn’t want seen. Sony, Nintendo, etc back it – while many celebs, google, etc oppose it. I can’t see something like that passing without a major backlash.

Though this topic is probably a bit controversial for this forum.

I agree Stickerbunny – we don’t want to be political on this forum.

I remember when I was in Costa Rica, I couldn’t visit Hulu’s website. The government had it blocked there. I imagine other websites were blocked as well. Youtube wasn’t though. LOL

LBJ10 you can’t access hulu outside the U.S. because of copyright laws – our shows take longer to go to other countries, but are shown at most 30 days after air on there, so they would be breaking the law if they let other countries view the shows on their site. Only exception is U.S. army bases etc can email them to gain access. Just like the BBC shows take about a year to get over here, so I can’t watch Merlin on their website, all non-UK IPs are banned. Though, they did just open up Hulu Japan.

Yes, those copyright laws. I guess that makes sense. It would be nice to see sites that sell illegal goods from other countries get blocked. I know Google has been in trouble for that, letting these websites appear in Google ads. I understand why people are upset though. I mean, people like Youtube and other sharing sites. So yeah, there would be a lot of backlash if those went bye-bye. I’m not sure what all this bill covers, I guess I should find out.
