If I keep my rabbit food in a trash can that is sealed in my basement (a cool, dry, dark place) how long can I keep it before it goes bad?

What food are you asking about? Pellets? Hay? Veggies?

Pellets need to be in an airtight container, and I wouldn’t open up more than a couple months supply. For example: we get multiple 10-lb bags of pellets but only open them as we need them. I know some brands (like Oxbow) sell pellets in larger quantities like 25 lbs… these higher amounts are only realistic for people with several rabbits. If you only have a few bunnies, that is going to go bad long before it’s used.

Hay can last quite awhile under the right conditions. It needs to be able to breathe and obviously be in a very dry location.
